I want to make a jumper or a cute top for my friend's daughter who is turning 4 this month.  I want it to be a surprise, so I don't want to ask my friend to measure her.  How do pattern sizes run for children?  At four, she's no longer considered a toddler (I'm pretty sure).  Would the size generally correspond to her age?  So, she's four so I make a size four?  Is this a completely dorkified question?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
