1  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: Question on Umbilical cord hat on: November 29, 2006 04:59:43 AM
Thanks- that's what I figured I should be doing once I was almost done with the decreases.  I took everything out and started again last night.  This time around I'm going to keep track of each round and make sure I have the right number of stitches!   Wink
2  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Question on Umbilical cord hat on: November 28, 2006 09:48:48 AM
Hello craftsters!  I'm stuck on this had.  I started doing the decreases after placing the stitch markers at every 8th stitch.  The instructions basically said to "knit 2 together in each section before the marker or before switching needles" (I totally paraphrased that since I have my book at home).  So I decreased before the marker on every needle but didn't touch the second set of 8 stitches.  Now that I have only 3 stitches left before the markers and 8 after the markers I think I did it wrong.

Am I supposed to decrease two times on each needle- before the marker and before switching needles?  Huh  Thanks for your help!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: Telling hubby/parents about pregnancy on: September 25, 2006 12:36:12 PM
I love all your ideas!  Smiley And congrats to everyone who's prego now or has already had their baby.  Wink

I'm due April 30 and have been waiting to tell our families until my mom's birthday which is Sept. 30.  My mom and dad are coming to visit along with my grandmother and her boyfriend.  I got the sweetest frame from Hallmark with the saying "A great mom gets promoted to Gramma" and I'll put a copy of our ultrasound picture in it.  I am so excited and can hardly wait until this weekend to tell them!

We're going to tell his parents next weekend and haven't come up with any ideas yet.  They're kind of boring though so we'll probably just tell them and not do anything cute.   Cheesy

I will be 9 1/2 weeks on Sat. 9/30 and will probably tell them to keep it under wraps for a few more weeks, just to be sure.  I've got more health concerns so don't want to tell too many people before the first trimester is (safely) over.  Wink

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll have to give them a try!   Smiley  I'm going to be in the car with my sister in law for about 6 hours tomorrow and she's a knitting wizard.  Hopefully she can help me get it started.

I'm having the worst time with this blanket.  Angry I've started it a bunch of times and used everyone's suggestions but still can't get it right.  One thing I'm having trouble with is the part where you need to yo to get 20 stitches.  Because you have to knit 1 first you only end up with 16 or so stitches, not the 20 that the pattern calls for.

I need to make this blanket b/c I love it so much!!!  Smiley
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Berroco's Plush yarn for baby dress- dry clean only on: August 10, 2006 06:18:59 AM
I kind of agree that I shouldn't bother with the dress.  Sad I don't want them to feel bad about not wearing it enough and I don't want to spend all the time and effort on it if it won't be worn.

Now the question is what do I do with this yarn?  If I make a blanket or anything with it it's still going to need to be handwashed.  Huh
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Berroco's Plush yarn for baby dress- dry clean only on: August 09, 2006 12:41:46 PM
I haven't gotten too far into this dress; I cast on 108 stitches and did about 3 rows when I noticed that it said dry clean only.  How can I give a baby a dress that can only be dry cleaned?

Should I rip it out and do another project with the yarn?  I've got 8 skeins for the 2 dresses I was going to make (4 skeins per dress in a matching array of colors).  Undecided

That's awesome!  Very clever to make it into a purse.  Smiley
