1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Faux-snakeskin wristlet from thrifted jacket on: September 19, 2007 01:18:02 AM
It was pretty easy to work with, it's thin so it doesn't need an industrial machine like upholstery-grade vinyl. And it's got a dry, matte finish so the presser foot doesn't stick like it would on glossy vinyl. I also have a roller foot and a teflon foot, they are really useful for working with vinyls.

this is a new site that has the detailed stats we always wanted, instead of guessing the best time to list.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: eyeball pillow on: July 25, 2007 11:33:13 AM
princess_megs that is AWESOME!!! I love the cord on the back. You did really good veins too.
I made a smaller version of this with the smallest knifty knitter loom, and gave it to a friend's son. At first he was like, huh? What do I do with it? But then he started playing with it and his sisters were playing with it, it's great for young kids to play catch because they don't flinch if they think it will hit them in the face. You can't hurt someone with this ball. It's also easy to catch because you can dig your fingers into it.

More eyeballs!!!
4  California / California: Central / san francisco- central or northern? on: June 18, 2007 03:25:27 AM
according to the map it's Northern, but most of the SF topics are in this forum for central CA.
I was searchng for a topic I knew I'd posted in in the northern CA forum and found it in here. (it used to be in the northern forum when I replied last year)
are the SF topics getting moved from northern into this forum, or what is happening?

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: My first experiments making cuffs on: June 12, 2007 06:31:10 PM
yes they are machine sewed, but some of my vinyl gave me lots of trouble! It's sticky or something and left a gummy residue on the needle which prevents the stitches from locking (the top and bobbin thread don't lock). So I had to keep changing needles and cleaning them with alcohol and stuff.
I didn't use any stiffener because my base fabric was either vinyl or heavy denim (the last one).

There is another one not pictured  I'm just going to throw away because the vinyl was peeling off and just making a mess, it was some thin pleather which looked like a thin coat of latex on a knit backing?
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / My first experiments making cuffs on: June 11, 2007 11:14:16 PM
First I am not sure if this goes here or in clothing?
sewn fabric cuffs. It's worn like jewelry but made more like clothing?
hmmm so I'll try it here, if this is wrong a mod can move it.

I decided to try making some cuffs. I have all these small pieces of cool fabrics left over and never throw them away, but didn't know what I could use them for. Cuffs! The perfect solution, and I have some metal studs, bits of ribbons , single buttons, all kinds of things to use up.

so I made these over the weekend, most of them  are using 3 different vinyls or some fake fur:

the lining on this is a black and white bat print

the lining on this is black and silver pinstripes

lining is purple leopard print corduroy

lining is zebra print cotton

anyway now I think that I really love making cuffs and using up scraps, and they are more comfortable than metal bracelets because they are flexible.

Is there any way to maybe have an expand/collapse toggle on the index, so that you could expand it to show all the child boards, or collapse it to show just the main categories like it shows now?
and that it would remember your preference?

the problems are
1. newbies do not realize that each of those categories really has 4  or more boards INSIDE it. There might be boards they would be interested in, but don't even know it's there because all the real content is hidden 3 clicks deep.

2. oldbies might forget which category a child board is in, so now they have to go into a category, look for it, nope not there. try the next room, nope not there.

the old system was like having glass doors on all your kitchen cabinets- you never had to look for anything because you could see everything you had right from  the index. Some people thought it was cluttered, I thought it was practical.
Now it's like there are wooden cabinet doors.  It looks "cleaner" but you spend a lot more time looking for stuff.

I'm sad. don't like it.
I know you must have put a lot of work into it, but it's much less functional now.
you can't see the info (post count, thread count, moderators, etc) for each forum or the subforums all in one place.
it's lots more clicks to get where you are going.
you can't see how many posts or when the most recent post was in a forum until you enter it.
also can't find the links to upload pictures. not in the sidebar where it used to be.
 Cry sorry.

the colors and cork background are cute though. Just don't like the new index.

they can still post the text that goes with their project and then post links to the pics. (url will end in .jpg instead of .html)
I think maybe part of the problem is people don't know how to extract the link to the individual photo as opposed to the page the photo is on.
But I have to be honest- when I see posts that have links instead of pics I do not always click the links. I guess I am just lazy but I want all the info right here on craftster.
