1  Coraline Blue in Needlework: Completed Projects by teaparty on: May 12, 2009 09:13:00 AM
I made this for Sugary Sweet in the Coraline swap. It's the most ambitious embroidery I've ever done. Compared to the things other people do here, it's pretty basic, but I was really pleased with the results.

I sewed it into a bag I made of a soft blue chenille with (I thought) a cool batik fabric lining that reminded me of the tunnel Coraline goes down to the other world.

2  Olivia's Closet in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by teaparty on: April 28, 2009 05:32:11 PM

I babysit for two kids, age six and 3. They live in a beautiful house full of kid friendly spaces and yet they were always playing in the basement closet. It slopes under the stairs, had no drywall, a concrete floor and LOTS of spiders.  Tongue

As a Christmas surprise, their parents asked me to help them redo the closet. Their dad put up drywall and laid down some carpet, and I painted the walls. Their mom finished it off with the ceiling fabric, glow in the dark stars, a chalkboard and some fairy party lights.

I love how it turned out!

Here are a few shots of what it looked like after the drywall went up:

Yours should arrive sometime soon as well.  Smiley I'm sorry it took me so long. I started over twice! But I'm really proud of how the items came out- I had a really hard time parting with one of the things I sent you... As soon as I finish moving and writing my thesis I will have to make myself one.
Sneak peek?

4  Coraline Garden Umbrella in Completed Projects by teaparty on: April 14, 2009 09:54:23 PM
I made this for my partner in the Coraline swap and I'm pretty proud of it.

It's an umbrella painted with the garden from the Coraline movie (and book!).
Here's the garden it was based on:

And me modeling the finished product (it was bigger than I expected!).

And quick pics of WIP...

This took about 30 hours but it was worth it.

5  Coraline Circus Mouse in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by teaparty on: April 08, 2009 06:20:05 PM
and his cotton candy fresh from the cannon...

Made this for my partner in the Coraline swap and it was my first try with polyclay. I'm glad she likes it, though I see some flaws (scratched his little eye  Embarrassed, didn't realize the red from the cape would come off on my hands and turn the white pink  Roll Eyes)

It was fun though. I'll definitely be trying more with fimo now that I get the basics.

7  Hawaiian Pizza in Recipes and Cooking Tips by teaparty on: March 25, 2009 08:22:59 PM
Mr. teaparty and I were trying to recreate Donato's hawaiian pizza (no donoto's here  Cry)
so we made a thin crust pizza with homemade sweet sauce, ham, pineapple, almond slivers, cheese, and cinnamon.

It came out pretty, but next time we will add more pineapple juice tothe sauce, and toast the almonds before topping the pizza.

Has anyone else had any luck trying to recreate their favorite restaurant pizzas?

My first package arrived!!

From Malibukasey:

SQUITTY MITTS!!!

They are really warm soft fleece. I know I'm going to forget about them when I pack them up and then next fall I'll have the joy of another surprise when I re-discover them!!!

AND

an awesome tote bag with images of Bobinski and the mouse circus (my favs!) I love the little beets   Grin

Thanks MK! I love them!!

AND MORE!!
from Huggiepeelow...

What a great package- Look at all this cool stuff huggie sent me!

The box is awesome. I'm going to pack all my coraline goodies inside! It's going to be a real showpeice at our new apt.

There was a great lettersealed with a button that explains all the items:
a button key necklace (I'll keep it close- you're right, it would be a waste to throw it down the well!)

A buttoned pillow made of stage curtain fabric

(shown here with the next item...)

An Other Ms. Spink!

My camera does not do her justice- Huggie is a fine craftswoman with polyclay! Do you ave any better photos that show her delicate coloring? The hair alone must have taken forever!

And, Mr. Teaparty's favorite, a house for all our keys! Already put to use.

Thanks huggiepeelow, what fun items!!

10  How do I love Conan, let me stitch the ways... in Needlework: Completed Projects by teaparty on: February 13, 2009 01:13:21 PM
I didn't make any proper valentines this year, but I thought I'd post about one of my abiding loves- The Late Show with Conan O'Brien.

I recently took a trip to nyc to catch one of the last tapings of the show before Conan moves to LA and takes over the Tonight Show from Leno, and I made some patches of Conan and Max to put on hats. Mr. Teaparty and I sported them proudly to the taping, and the audience coordinator liked them so much, we were asked to stay for the second taping of the day! Although Conan was way too crazy busy to meet us that day, we had a nice chat with some of his staff, no waiting in line, and a VIP ride in one of the NBC elevators. All in all, pretty rad upgrade just for sporting some felt on our heads.

These are just embroidery floss on felt. I wanted to do the self-pleasuring bear, but the size of a ball cap is just so limiting! Oh well, maybe a tee shirt for next Valentine's day?

Here is the conan patch in action:
