1  Re: Dyeing alpaca in Dyeing: Discussion and Questions by elliebelly on: July 25, 2007 01:03:07 PM
whoever told you alpaca did not take dye well must have had a bad experience.

i've been dyeing fiber for over ten years, and alpaca is one of my very favorite fibers to dye.  it takes color nicely and evenly.

your best bet is to use acid dyes (the acid you use to set them is vinegar) and expect beautiful colors!  if i can help at all, feel free to email me.  i've got a link to a dyeing tutorial on my blog, as well.

here's some alpaca eye candy for you!

2  dyed & handpainted fabric with directions in Dyeing: Completed Projects by elliebelly on: June 19, 2007 10:30:30 PM

this is fabric that i first crackle dyed and then stamped/painted on.  i like doing different designs in the same palette so the fabric all coordinates for use.

i don't have a full blown tutorial yet, but there are directions for the basics of how to proceed & also a link to my crackle dye tutorial on my blog along with more pictures.  http://joycevance.typepad.com/joyce_makes_art/2007/06/fabric_painting.html

please let me know if you have any suggestions on the directions as i would like to do a good tutorial on this for people new to stamping on fabric.

3  She-Mootah. More Zakke in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by elliebelly on: June 16, 2007 06:10:37 PM
Somehow, I have managed to make my kids as Zakka obsessed as I am.  My daughter really liked my sons Mootah, so I had to come up with a She-Mootah for her.

This one is done using my hand-dyed and handpainted fabrics, but I've just scored some japanese fabrics and some new kaffe fasset, so I think I may have to make a couple more.  The details are on my blog if anyone is interested.

4  Strange Stuffed Cat Influenced by Miyazaki/Anime/Zakka in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by elliebelly on: May 30, 2007 11:03:51 PM
i don't really sew, but we love Miyazaki's The Cat Returns, and since we have a big fat Mootah Cat of our own, I had to make a stuffed one.

This may actually cause me to learn how to sew the right way so i can make a few more.

5  Altered Knits Felted Market Bag in Knitting: Completed Projects by elliebelly on: May 27, 2007 07:34:57 AM
I just finished a slightly modified version of the felted Market Bag from Alterknits.  It was a great pattern, and easy knit, and something I'm going to use a lot.

There are a few more photos on my blog.  The bag is knit mostly from Peace Fleece (that wonderful Sheplova Mushroom color, that I seem to use for everything!)

6  Art Journal Round Robin in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by elliebelly on: May 19, 2007 09:27:47 PM
i just finished up a year long artist's journal round robin.

the outside was a plain felted cover.

the art all spills out once you open in, and the felt inside is decorated with mohair locks and crystals and bells.

and have photographed the art and put it up on my blog if you want to take a look.

there were some amazing artists in the round robin and it has everything from felt to painting to quilting to collage.  There are photos of each individual piece on my blog.

I'm in LOVE with this colorway.  Sadly, my daughter is too so i have a bad feeling this pair isn't going to be for me.
