1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitty's breeze on: June 27, 2007 09:56:01 PM

This knit up VERY quickly.  I used Paton's Grace yarn, but had to make some adjustments for gauge - I got stitch gauge but not length gauge.  I also found out the importance of dye lot and making sure you have all the yarn you need for a project before starting.  notice how the right foot is darker than the left?

yep.  friggin' GENIUS here... Roll Eyes

This was my first ever project involving cables, and I can't believe what a chickenpoop I was about doing them!   Grin  So fun!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sweet Mary Janes on: May 16, 2007 11:44:45 PM

Made with Sugar and Cream cotton yarn - perfect for summer house-lounging.  What a fun knit!  They knit up FAST.  However, I did learn  that the only thing worse than KNITTING with 100% cotton yarn, is CROCHETING with it!  Holy crap!  The edging and straps took almost as long as knitting the body!  I developed muscles!

They did turn out a little big, even though I adjusted the pattern.  Does anyone know if Sugar and Cream will shrink at all?  I've only ever made washcloths with it before, and I never really noticed if they shrunk.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / BOW BEFORE MY MIGHTY STORAGE-FU! on: April 07, 2007 07:40:30 PM
My DH and I took a trip to Ikea today.  We picked out what I needed, crammed the 3 huge boxes it came in into his toyota camry, unloaded, and spent the next several hours assembling.  (he's just the bestest husband ever!)

Behold!  The mighty yarn and general crafty storage thingamajig!

click on the pic to see where everything goes   Grin

Before all my yarn was stuffed into baskets and rubbermaid storage totes.  I had NO idea what I had, so as a result, I must have kept buying the same stuff over and over again.  How many balls of andean treasure in what is basically "dark red" does one person need?

Many, apparently.   Roll Eyes

But just look at all that empty space!  SO much room for MORE YARN!  Hooray!!!

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / malabrigo winter trifecta! on: January 31, 2007 09:19:25 PM
It's been a looong time since I posted any FO's.  After all my christmas knitting, I wanted to knit some things for ME!  I used two hanks of malabrigo I won off of ebay to make:

first, I made a PANTA, which is now my favorite quick knit gift to make - this is the 3rd one I've made so far.  (sorry for the creepy smile on my face.  and my pjs)

Then with the majority of what was left, I made a very very very long Knitty's Edgar.  It's at least 10ft long.

Then, with the wee bit of yarn I had over, I decided to be silly....

nose warmer!

no tassel.  I'm not THAT silly!   Cheesy

It sounds like she (or he?) just comes up with an idea and then knits it without a pattern.  Now THAT is talent!

That poor dog, though!  Cheesy
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Oh crap - heel issues. on: August 30, 2006 07:06:39 AM
So I started doing a pair of socks from Sensational Knitted Socks using some self-striping yarn and the chevron pattern.  I had only done the easy-toe socks before, and the chevron pattern started at the cuff.  No worries...until I got to the heel.

Quote
Take yarn from other side of skein. Locate part of painted pattern youre currently working in, and start using that.

And here is the problem with that:

I have already wound my yarn into a ball!  I never work with skeins!!!

So what do I do?  I haven't done enough socks to figure out if another heel method will work with self-striping yarns.

1. Unwind the ball into another ball to get to the other end, and then REWIND it back when the heel is finished.

2. Cut the yarn and try to match up color patterns when all joining occurs.

3. try another heel method that works with self-striping yarns.

any ideas?

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / the slacker finishes the pinwheel blanket! on: June 05, 2006 09:46:03 PM
I started this back in...february?  As soon as my friend found out she was having a girl.  I got the blanket finished, half of the knit lace border...and then...moved on to other things.  Well, her baby shower was this weekend, and the baby is due next month!  After a marathon knitting spree lasting until 3am saturday night, I give you...

Made with caron simply soft, so it is machine washable - a must for all baby accessories.  It's HUGE for a baby blanket, too.  I might have gotten carried away - it's about 34 inches across.  So little Lily will be EXTRA bundled when she arrives!  My friend LOVED it and it got the most ooos and ahhhs from the guests at the shower.  And OH YEAH, I preened a bit.  No one else made their own gift!
