21  Felt pouch in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by maytina on: April 03, 2009 07:39:11 PM
When I made this for my friend Lindsay last week, I didn't have a specific purpose for it but it turns out it's just a wee bit bigger than her phone! I cut out pieces for the front and back, and then sides and bottom. I did a little embroidery on the front before I sewed it all up on the machine.

It came together in under half an hour, I think I'll make a few more!

22  Cashmerino Baby Dress in Knitting: Completed Projects by maytina on: March 27, 2009 10:36:43 PM
I had high hopes for this little dress. I stumbled between a couple of patterns until I settled on a super cute one called Blossom, from Tiny Happy. http://tinyhappy.typepad.com/tiny_happy/2008/06/blossom---a-knitted-dress-pattern.html It's a smack in the face sort of reminder that I need to check my guage! This was intended for a 3 week old baby...

I thought about giving it to my 3 year old as a shirt, but she's not exactly a delicate child. Tongue She's a rough little one and maybe not so suited for cashmerino. I'll just wait till our newest wee one is bigger.

I'm happy with the way it came out, just a little bummed it doesn't fit the wee one yet.

23  Valentine Pie in Dessert by maytina on: February 23, 2009 11:10:20 AM
I've been on a pie making kick where I make a different pie every weekend, and I was so pleased with the way this one came out, I had to share!

The concept for the crust and the basic recipe came from the Feb/09 issue of Martha, except I used strawberries instead of raspberries.

Strawberry-Pear Valentine Pie!

Also, I made these from the same issue - heart-brownie topped cupcakes!

24  School Valentines / Wee Bags in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by maytina on: February 23, 2009 10:43:02 AM
My 8 year old wanted to get crafty this year, which of course made me giddy with possibilities!! We made some heart shaped salt dough ornaments, and tucked them (along with a little candy) into these cute little paper hearts. I did the cutting and he did most of the weaving.

Here's the inside of them:

Then I made some wee little bags from scrapbooking paper for my Stitch n Bitch girls that weekend! I stuffed them with a heart shaped brownie, mini lipstick and lipgloss tucked in a knitted lipgloss cozy! These wee bags are from Martha circa 2004.

25  Silly Knitting in Knitting: Completed Projects by maytina on: January 19, 2009 08:23:03 AM
I have done so much knitting in the last couple of months, I can hardly believe it. Admid all the scarves and socks and wristwarmers I got a little silly.

I made my husband some Star Trek Next Gen characters for Christmas and I'm just posting them now (from the tutorial made by Kimberly Chapman ->http://kimberlychapman.com/crafts/knit-littledudes.html)
They were really fun and quick to knit up and I want to knit him some ships as well. Most of the ships have been hard to figure out, I really want to make him a Borg ship.

Silly knitting is so much fun, it's usually fast and takes my mind off complicated socks.  Tongue Shocked

26  Weekly Pie in Dessert by maytina on: January 19, 2009 07:33:20 AM
Every weekend I host a Stitch n Bitch at my house and in the last couple of months I've been making a pie every weekend. So far I've made all the staples and have been cutting silly things from the crust to make it a little more interesting. My faves are my Domo pie (blueberry), and this backwards apple pie that I'll do again properly in the future. I have a heap of pie recipes, but I'm looking for some weird ones, or neat ideas to add to the crust. Thoughts?

27  Knitted Marshmallow in Knitting: Completed Projects by maytina on: January 04, 2008 05:39:03 AM
I have to admit, when I cast on for this I had intended for him to be a cupcake. I made him as a little birthday treat to pop in the mail for a friend. He was made from stash yarn without a pattern. The body was knitted and the arms/top were crocheted. He doesn't have a name yet, but he's full of personality!

Thanks for looking!

28  Beaded Wristwarmers in Knitting: Completed Projects by maytina on: December 12, 2007 10:36:27 AM
I made these for a dear friend who now lives here in Toronto, but is from Sask (where the winters are so cold you can't really wear anything just because it's pretty). They're cute and they really do keep the wrists warm. Only snapped a photo of one when it was done though.  Shocked

And a close up.

I used less than 1 skein of Artful Yarns' Portrait in #171 Girl Before a Mirror, on 2.25mm straights. After the initial frustration with the double pointed needles slipping out of the yarn, and trying to mess with the pattern (originally the Mrs Beetons from Knitty), they didn't take long at all. The most time consuming thing was sewing on the beads, next time I will make sure the holes in my beads are big enough for the yarn!

Thoughts? Grin

29  Re: ALL YEAR LONG CHRISTMAS CRAFTALONG 2006 in Craftalongs by maytina on: January 30, 2006 07:49:20 AM
I can't believe I did that. Roll Eyes I posted about two ornaments, including one I botched and I didn't post the photo.

This is the photo of the sweater ornament:

One finished object, one we'll call 'practice'.

This was made from a swing-out dollar store storage container, some tissue paper and some cute red ribbon. I put a photo of me, circa 1985, on one side and a photo of my sister, circa 1994, on the other side. I think it's cute. My side is the first photo.

I'm posting this to show effort. Haha. The funny looking sleeve is the first sleeve I attached, but the second sleeve, I had figured out what I did wrong. I'm going to add a string to hang it by from the same yarn as the sweater. I think if I can make these look festive (colour, or small embroidery maybe) I'll hang them from the cupboard knobs too.

I'm going to make more of each of these over the next couple of days, and start on sewing gifts on Wednesday. Grin
