1  Personalized Macbook: Cat decal in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by ankonym on: October 10, 2010 05:57:26 AM

(I am not sure if this is the right category - my computer does seem to be quite a central part of my home though (and my office, too), and this does improve the look of both of those places.)

Macbook Pros are pretty, sleek, shiny things. But when everyone at work has the same pretty, sleek, shiny thing, it can be a bit much of all that elegant aluminum glow and not enough personality. (It's also hard to spot your own in a meeting room.)
Some people started to buy decals but a) buying them is pricey and boring and b) some people ended up having the same ones so their uniqueness isn't quite so unique.

So! Craftiness to the rescue! All you need is some adhesive plastic film (DIY stores have them), a paper cutter, an idea for a design (using the glowing white apple is tempting) and a lazy Saturday. (If your Macbook has a tendency to crash far more often than your old Windows machine, threatening its innocent fruit logo feels oddly satisfying.)

See the result! I'm quite pleased (if a bit worried that it doesn't stick well enough... I hope it doesn't come off too quickly!)

2  wristband pin cushion in Completed Projects by ankonym on: September 30, 2005 05:37:18 AM
My first post! Hallo!

I have recently discovered how much fun sewing is but did not have a decent pin cushion yet. So yesterday after cutting off a few inches from the legs of an old pair of jeans, the leftover material gave me an idea.
So voil! A pin cushion that is always right where I need it. Also, I like it so much that it makes me want to sew even more.

Leftover denim that closes with a bit of velcro, lined in pink to look prettier, with an old candy tin attached (I figured a metal container would be a good idea so I don't accidentally run any pins into my skin...). The cushion is stuffed with some leftover foam rubber covered with the same pink material.
