21  Vintage pleated clutch in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by angelbum on: June 27, 2008 09:35:18 AM
I made this for the handspun handicraft swap. It's a pleated clutch made from this absolutely mint condition vintage...brocade? It even has gold foil woven all through it. My great aunt had it hidden away for decades and just recently gave it to me.

The pattern came from my noggin. I wanted a rounded bottom, so I cut the front and back as one piece.

Here is it filled with something:

It was fun to make, I had a hard time parting with it. The only thing is I wish I could have centered the pattern, but the piece I had didn't allow for it.

Edited to add:

I'm kicking myself for not taking better closeups, as I took the time to identically pleat the lining, and used a matching metallic gold thread to topstitich around the handle. There's a nice little magnetic clasp holding it closed. I think I used 2 layers of heavyweight interfacing for the handle pieces.

So the mailpeople came through and KathleenAlice recieved! She's been busy busy busy and asked if I could post pics for her. So without further ado....

I introduce you to the vintage pleated clutch:

The fabric was given to me by my great aunt who'd hoarded it for years and years. It was in perfect condition. Given as KA's fave colors were blue, green and purple, and she seemed to lean towards warm neutrals, I thought this was a nice match to her style.

Next up: The extras.

Some fancy lovely yarn

painted bamboo needles:

handful of fabric buttons and iron-on patches:

and the piece de resistance.....coming up when I find some more time....maybe tomorrow?

Well lookit that, found some time...

26  Re: My aqua & brown purse..awesome fabric! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by angelbum on: May 30, 2008 08:47:08 PM
Nice bag! I like it a lot  Grin

So when you say a round bottom do you mean something like this?

If I remember correctly, I sewed 2 shallow U - shaped seams across either side of the bottom, so each end of the seam more or less blended up into the curve of the side of the bag. Does that make sense?

Here's a picture of the bottom:

I should have filled it more, the right side here is a bit deflated. But you can still make out the seams.

Anyway, I hope that helps!

YAY!!!  Grin I'm glad you finally got them Ms. Rosie! Phew, so relieved you likes dem  Tongue

Hehe, what you didn't post was the slightly badass interior of the triangle bag. You mentioned that you like skulls so I couldn't resist.

Here are some shots of the bag before it got squished in the mail LOL! and a shot of the interior of the other pouch and the card cause it makes me smile when I see them  Grin

Oh, both of the fabrics were bought at my local Fabricana store. I don't seem to have the seam info of the cartoon fabric anymore so I have no idea who made it etc. The seam of the remaining scrap of newpaper kitteh print reads "TIMELESS TRE..."

I was going to do something entirely different, but when I happened across those fabrics I just had to get them!
