1  Need ideas for 1st purse ever!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by fabfairhope on: October 02, 2005 10:56:32 PM
I've gotten brave....not only am I going to shorten this dress to cocktail length (with my oh-so-novice sewing skills), but I'm going to try to make a matching purse (1st 1 ever!) from the left-over material.  I just don't know what style of purse would work well with this dress.  I bought the dress for a wedding, so whatever style purse I make, I'd like it to be not too tiny but not cumbersome to carry around all night either.

I'm pretty new here, but have looked at so many of the purses posted & am floored at the talent & creativity ya'll have!  It definitely gives me TONS to aspire to!  So I'm hoping some of you could offer some ideas on the style/shape/size purse I should do that isn't majorly difficult to make, and maybe point me towards a tutorial or 2.

Here's the dress:

Thanks for any suggestions/inspirations!! Smiley

2  Newbie w/?'s about dress in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by fabfairhope on: October 02, 2005 10:16:39 PM
So I just won this great dress on ebay...bought it to wear to a wedding....but it's floor length.  As a mom of 3 I never have an opportunity to go anywhere that requires a floor length gown, so I thought it looked like it'd be simple enough to just shorten - say to just below my knees or right at the bottom of my knees - would that be called "tea length"Huh  Huh.  And I may have to take it in a little on the sides.   It's got 2 layers to it...the top layer with the pattern on it has a slit.  The material is polyester.

I've only sewn a few things, very minor hem fixes, a couple of tablecloths, stuff like that.  Roll Eyes  So ?'s are:
1 - Does this look pretty easy to shorten/hem?
2 - Could I use the leftover fabric to make a matching purse?  or does that require bunches of fabric?

Here's the dress:

Thanks for any advice you guys can provide!
