1  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Dog bed made from sofa cushion on: April 07, 2009 09:08:41 PM
A local furniture store received six foam couch cushions with no couches to go with them.  They gave me the cushions and I remade them into dog beds that were sold to raise funds for the local animal shelter.

I removed the original covers that had short zippers and made new covers using 60" duvet zippers so that the covers could easily be removed for washing.  I used the tutorial here http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/put_a_zipper_in_your_pill/index.html to make a lapped zipper that hides the zipper and hopefully makes it less interesting for dogs to chew.

I was in a hurry to take the beds into the shelter, so unfortunately I didn't get a good photo.  Click on the image for a larger pic.

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / what is your color choice? on: May 30, 2008 01:47:29 PM
I am making dog beds for the Humane Society.  They are square cushion-style beds, about 23L x 23W x 7H inches  with smoke grey fake sheepskin on the top (sleeping area), and the sides and bottom are corduroy.  I have enough supplies for 3 beds, but I have 4 colors of corduroy in my collection to choose from.  So, if you were buying a dog bed, would you want

1. grey top/red sides (bright fire-engine red)
2. grey top/emerald green sides ( similar to this color  http://img150.imageshack.us/my.php?image=emlt9.jpg only I think my fabric color is brighter)
3. grey top/grape purple sides
4. grey top/chocolate brown sides.
5. red fake fur top/red sides
6. bubblegum pink fake fur top/grape purple sides

I was wondering if the bright red and bright green would turn people off, or is it okay to use intense(LOUD!) colors on a pet bed?
I want the beds to be popular and sell quickly, to raise money for the shelter animals.

Thanks for your help.
