431  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / On the right track, but I need some help with 'stuffers'... on: November 26, 2005 07:09:06 AM
Okay, so I know what I want to do for my parents this year.  I'm planning or cross stitching on a drawstring bag, and then filling it with some other little things.  The problem is, I don't know what to fill them with.  For my mom, I've got lip gloss... but that's about it.  Huh

Here's a few things about them:

Mom-Quiet, between jobs, loves to read, (we all do actually), cries at just about every sappy poem but still loves them, Cecily Mary Barker... ooo brainstorm... MOVING ON... umm... we don't have a bathtub anymore, just a shower stall, so bath beads/foam, are no good, pretty smelling things, but not floral... Anything a middle-aged woman would like...

Dad-Also loves book, disliked people/dealing with the public... lol, lamps <3, umm... if you know who I'm talking about: Richard Matheson, H.P.Lovecraft, Clive Barker (authors)... I dunno...

Any ideas are greatly appreciated... I'll prbably do record bowls for both my grandmas due to the simplicity, then put some candies in there, (plus they are so not craft savvy they'll think it is amazing)

Please post, any help is appreciated

Guh... the most brutal thing is... I don't know where the fall went?  It just seemed to disappear.  I think I know what I might make.  I'm thinking, okay I found this drawstring bags made out of Aida, so I might crostt stitch them for my parents with names or such... simple designs (all because of time, I'm actually rather skilled with cross stitch) and then fill them with random little things they I will also make. Cheesy  How does that sound?

Anyone else find themselves in the same boat every year? I sure do.  I don't think I've bought a gift for my parents, and I am severly running out of time and ideas.  Every year I say I'm gonna start earlier, then come November I realize how screwed I am.  Gah.  Please tell me I'm not the only one!?  I was slightly under the impression that most crafters are all slightly disorganized and miss something... Brutal... I'm still not sure what to do...  Huh

Oooo... Ahh... That's completely serious, by the way.  It's so pretty!  I want to make it sooo bad!  I love the simplicity of origami, and I definitely think that is the prettiest one I've probably ever seen!  Two questions: 1) Is it only one piece of paper? (Sounds stupid, but there are some patterns that use more than one pice of paper), and 2) Can you do a tutorial, or point me in the direction of some wonderful and understandable directions? I want to make that SOO much now! *pouts*

Thanks guys!  I hope they turn out good!  It's a small school to have this ambitious of a project.

Go as Dr. Finklestein from the Nightmare Before Christmas.  If your friend doesn't have a cotume yet, then this... http://membres.lycos.fr/duchet/_nightmare/scriptpix/151sc.jpg would be perfect.  I don't think a mask would be hard to make, then all you'd need is a lab coat, and black rubber gloves.

Thanks!  I'll look in to it.  We are a pretty small school, so budgeting for this kind of thing is a bit of a problem.  We are trying to put a bunch of inserts in, such as dance tickets, etc.  The shoelaces was my idea, just to tie it all together.  Pardon the pun, it was accidental.  If anyone else has any other ideas, please post!  Thanks much,

Rachel

OKay, this is from a high school in Canada.  For our yearbook, we are doing a theme of shoes.  We have all kinds of inserts going in, and we are trying to find a company that sells shoelaces in mass quantity.  It's preffered to have a Canadian company, but we'll look at anything.  We want to include a shoelace as a bookmark, and therefore need half as many pairs as we have yearbooks.  Our school colours are red and white, so try to keep that in mind.  Any help with this would be great, and a quick response would be tremendous.

Thank you fellow crafters for reading this...

Omg!  I actually laughed out loud.  You've made me want to make one!  Are you okay with that?  I wouldn't be selling it or anything!

I don't know if anyone corrected this as I'm too lazy to read all the posts, but someone said candy cane, and that's one you shouldn't use.  It's actually an upside down J, for Jesus. Wink  You can check out the history of the candy cane on-line.  It's pretty interesting.  I'm thinking things like snowflakes... gifts (Huh) maybe...
