1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / What to give the other woman? on: December 22, 2007 04:21:52 AM
The Back Story
So my dad and mother are going through a divorce that involve another woman... Now my dad's girlfriend and I get along quite well and they have been dating for at quite a quite long time now so I suddenly struck five days before Christmas with the question of WHAT THE HECK DO I GET HER??  Now as a crafter with an amount of spare time and a poor college kid with little to no money, I was struck by my own need of pot holders and then I realized everyone needs more pot holders ( Roll Eyes

The Project
So not being able to remember a single color in her home I just picked to colors of yarn that I liked

It's homespun 381 Barley and Red Heart  0512 Turqua

I then knitted a rectangle (and by the last inch and a half of second one I thought I was never going to be done)

Then I sowed it into a square so it had a finger/thumb pouch.

And Finally a Sudo Action Shot

I made a set of two in under two days and I slept and went to work.  I knitted them on 9's and I must say that knitting two strands of yarn on 9's was stiff and frustrating at time but gives it a good thickness to keep from burning fingers And the pouch keeps you from ploping your pot holder in your food or if placed the other way then it keeps your fingers from slipping of the edge of pot holder (maybe I'm the only one who has that issue).  If I was to do it again I would make two pouches I believe and/or make the pouch longer.

Sorry for the excess of pictures and length of this post I'm going off of no sleep.
2  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / scarf drive & preemie caps? on: November 18, 2005 12:54:23 AM
OK well I saw the post a few posts down about a scarf drive and well I have no idea anything about it.  But it sounded like a good idea as well as the preemie caps just make me very sad because preemies make me sad, and then I was thinking what about these kids moms?  So my idea is to take all of this roll it in to one huge project and call it Awsome, lol.

What if we got our friends to knit things like scarves and baby hats, and in our gave them to the hospital, or a crisis Pregnancy Center (in our town we have one do ya'll).   Last year my girls group donated blankets and they where saying that really anything is a big help.

I think that would be an awsome gift does anyone agree?  Is this a doable thing for you all?
3  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / HELP 1 month with the boy on: June 14, 2005 12:53:00 AM
Ok I've been with my boy for a month on Wendsday(I know but I'm a procrastinator) and have this crazy need to etch him a cup because he's amazing and I picked the word Coalesce(it means to form) to put on it because it's one of his favrite words.  well it doesn't fit all the way around the glass and I want to stencil something in the space but what??

I've decided to put a celtic knot on there but I need a good one.  I found one that looks like 2 beans with twin inbetween them any others or and good sites for them?

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / It's that time of year again...HELP! on: April 10, 2004 11:02:20 PM
OK. My mom's a librarian at an elementary school. It's book fair time again. The theme is "treasure hunt and pirates" Roll Eyes. All the stuff given to her by the company and the things on the website are, well, dumb.  OK, I need quick crafty things I can do/make to spruce up 5'x12' metal book display cases that can be taken off. Also things that can be put up around the library.  Please, I need help.
