11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Summerdress dilemma... comments greatly appreciated.. on: January 10, 2008 02:00:39 PM
Right off hand, I swear there are no photos of me in any of the dresses (figures, huh...) but I want to post them on the board very soon. Also, I was looking through the spring 08 McCall's patterns and saw this pattern, M5582:

The silhouette looks the same, but with just a different bodice and a fabric belt instead of a waistband...I'm definitely going to give this pattern a try!

So awesome! I missed the Las Vegas shows by a week, major sadness there. BUT they're going to extend the tour so I may not have missed my chance Smiley

I made this dress THREE times last summer! Once in the view you have shown, two others with the deep v-style neck. I used cotton prints for 2 of them with the straps and the waistband in a solid, contrasting color. For the other dress I used a synthetic blend I found for cheap. It's a pretty fun pattern and every time I wore one of them out I was complimented.

If it's broader straps you are looking for, the straps are really just one long piece of fabric (like a belt) that is threaded through the front and back then tied in a bow up front. You could make that wider if you wanted.

But without knowing what it is about the neckline you don't like, I can't really recommend any other patterns to you!
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Bamboo needles - my dogs new snack on: December 12, 2007 03:17:12 PM
Gotta love dogs, right? I came home the other day and found that mine had taken a ball of (thankfully, acrylic) yarn and strung it through every room in the house, including the basement. I was laughing too hard to discipline him!
15  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: what are your favourite knitting books? on: December 12, 2007 01:53:56 PM
I keep going back to the 2 books that started my obsession, Stitch'N Bitch & Stitch'N Bitch Nation. And the new book of men's patterns is on my wish list too, Son of Stich'N Bitch. There is a great variety of patterns, some apparel, some accessories, some "WTF?", etc.

I also love Last Minute Knitted Gifts and Loop D Loop...the photos and projects are beautiful.

I just knit one of these a couple of weeks ago too! I am only knitting from my stash this Winter, and it is a fantastic way to use up your leftovers.

The only thing I did differently - each stripe was 2 rows, and I broke the yarn between every row and left the ends about a foot long so that they became the lazy-woman's fringe...plus no ends to weave in!
17  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: knitting in nylon mag on: December 04, 2007 03:49:24 PM
They're very simple pieces. Perfect projects for beginners. It's GREAT that Nylon is promoting handcrafted works by independent designers though, Smiley a little surprising too, since they're in cahoots with Urban Outfitters Sad

That turned out really great, and reminded me that I've been meaning to make a dress for fall from that pattern. Your blog is great too, btw Smiley I share your love for Sew What! Skirts.
20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: McCall's 5512 Hilary Duff Dress on: November 01, 2007 09:36:12 AM
I am very impressed with the Hilary Duff patterns, I bought the bubbly coat pattern also.

I'm planning on making this dress soon, (possibly in a cozy plaid flannel, with sleeves?) I hope it turns out as good as yours!
