21  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Re: Halloween Party Food-need ideas! on: October 11, 2011 09:52:03 AM
I once made breadstick "fingers" that were dipped in "blood" sauce, but that might be inappropriate for little kid.

You could always cut out pizza dough or bread dough into desired bat or cat shapes (not sure how'd they'd bake out) and then dip in a pizza sauce.

I remember Martha Stewart always had lots of good ideas.
22  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / gnome potluck ideas? on: October 11, 2011 09:49:23 AM
Every year my boyfriend and I go to a potluck halloween party and I like to bring something that correlates with our costume.

One year we were GreeK gods, so we brought grapes. Year before that we were Homer and Marge, so we brought donuts and canned beer. This year, we are going to be gnomes.

Stuffed mushrooms are the obvious thing I can think of, but the bf HATES mushrooms. Any suggestions for something else?

24  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 64 Gallery on: December 20, 2010 09:42:53 PM
I love that scarf and those rainbow buttons!!!

I received quite a while ago from Goddessgarb, but with visiting family and such, haven't had time to post pictures.

She sent me a super cute embroidery bit, inspired by some of my wisted items. I'm hoping to frame it and hang it in my kitchen.

She also sent me THREE bags of clear flat marbles, so I can finally finish (and start.... Grin) my bowling ball gazing ball project.

Thanks!!!

That owl pillow is super super cute! I've been wanting to make one for a while. I'm sure your partner loves it, I do!

That Veggie Dino is super cute! And I love the HP scarf!!!

I had claimed MommytheMaid for some placemats for her son and daughter, and she received quite a while ago, but never posted pictures, so I figured I would do so...

She had wanted mats appliqued with how they set their table, and she said her daughter likes pink, and her son dinosaurs. I used the leftover solid fabrics to make some matching napkins.

that black fabric with the pink images is so random! I see a takeout box, a cat, and a girl...are there more that we can't see? I love it! It appears to be one of the games "one of these things is not related..."

I received today from strwberesh0rtcke. She claimed me for some wisty surprise, which I had listed as some Harry Potter inspired awesomeness:

First, a bright pink Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes apron. She said she hand died it, so I'm wondering, can I wash it normally? Its identical to the one I wisted, which I think was from a post somewhere here on craftster...

**and the mandatory apologetic disclaimer for the crappy bathroom mirror cell phone picture...**

I wish I would have gotten a few days ago to ware to the midnight opener! But no loss...I will ware it at midnight in July! And lots in between!

She also made some magnets of slogans i've liked...

Along with these great things, she also sent me two bags of clear flat marbles so I can make a gazing ball out a bowling ball that I've had for a few years....

Thanks so much!!!!

I claim sahmama for a citrusy apron!
2nd claim, 0 sent, 0 received

Hi, Im Melissa. Im 26 and live in Petaluma, California with my boyfriend, Matt and my cat, Gale. We recently moved into a larger apartment with a yard, and just got 5 hens (named January-May) and are slowly starting our garden. I am passionate about good food, reading and living a life that wont increase the damage on our earth. I love spending time outside and I am very, very excited its finally fall! I don't have any allergies, but i HATE the smell of any type of smoke.

wists: http://www.wists.com/santacruzsugar

This is a list of things I would love. Ive tried to organize it by crafty type:

knitted/crochet:
(Im thinking these are big wishes, but I dont know how to knit, so maybe they wouldnt take that long for someone skilled!) I love solid colors of purples, black, grays, bright deep pink, greens, blues, cream.

 • chunky leg warmers. I have skinny calves, so if you need a measurement, please ask. I love these.
 • fingerless gloves. I also have small hands. I love this style
 • scarf. Nothing of pure wool yarn, as it makes me itch.

Jewelry/Hair/ Accessories
I dont ware bracelets at all, but love larger, funky (without being novelty) earrings, necklaces and hair clips/pins. Feathers, odd bits, flowers, etc... I have lots of examples on the wist list.

Id also really like a pair of bobbie tassels. I have no idea how or when Id ware them, but having them might make that happen faster! I like these a lot.

Embroidery/Painted/other Art Form for my Kitchen
I am doing an old-fashioned country farm/garden themed kitchen (think chipped enamel bowls, galvanized steel flower vase, big bowls of fresh fruit on plank wood table. NOT circa1990s cow, sunflower, rooster type dcor) and would love some kind of art I could frame and put above my stove. Maybe an:
 • embroidered sampler
 • stitched, painted, photo of something garden inspired
 • old seed packets
 • antiquey looking?
No need to frame it, just get me something to put in a frame!
Some art pieces that have caught my eye:
Built
bird & hummingbird feeders. I would prefer ones made from creative materials as opposed to the standard ones you can buy at the store. I really like this idea to make one made from old pot lids!

Fabric items
 • Tea towels. Embroidered, block printed, or plain. I want to marry these towels and have all of our little linen babies.
 • cloth napkins
 • a ruffled valance for the kitchen window like this one but only 3 tiers. If you message me I can get off my ass and find a tape measure and get you the window dimensions.
 • washable pot holders
 • full bodied country-ish apron. I like the shape (but not into the print) of this one SUPER cute!!!
miscellaneous art for my bedroom
Im going to try to decorate my bedroom in an anthropolgie/naturey type theme in blues, whites, black and silvers (Im thinking textured white comforter, a lamp made out of a painted log, and some textured pillows.)

I would love some wall art similar or inspired by this or this

Other crafty things
 • soap BIG BIG WISH!!! I like all scents EXCEPT patchouli (uggg gag. its like really bad hippie BO..), sandlewood and fir.  Citrus, fruit, spice, oatmeal and floral are always nice. Not a huge fan of vanilla (yeah, I know, Im weird)
 • a sign or somekind of wall hanging I can put near the front door that says Matt & Melissa, established 2008,like these
 • bees wax candles

Supplies/Others
print collection from Alexander Henry:
 • Pinking shears (used are fine)
 • Used or new books from my book  wishlist
 • small flat clear marbles for making a bowling ball gazing ball
 • small galvanized metal pots to grow herbs on my window sill. I'm looking for ones that don't have anything stamped on them (like the cheesy ones from Michael's)

thanks!!!!

and ignore my link coding errors...i'm too tired to figure out where i went wrong....

30  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / steampunk goodness on: November 05, 2010 10:22:16 PM
Back in September, my town had its annual Handcar Regatta, where people build handcars and all kinds of crazy mechanical workings, and race them down the abandoned railroad tracks. Most of the people dress up, and its a fairly big event. Unfortunately, it was over 100 degrees, so we didn't stay long.
I was, however, very proud of the costumes I pulled together for myself and my boyfriend.

There was a guy from the local paper taking pictures of couples and he posed us all silly.

I made my bustle skirt from this hideous 80's prom dress, complete with the butt bow (seriously, how were those every cool???) that I got at the Goodwill for $7.

The before...

I bought a corset, which was super tight and didn't really fit me, but it worked for the short amount of time i wore it. I made a little top hat from extra dress material, cardboard, and some scrap leather i had cut from (another 80's) Goodwill dress. I hot glued it onto a headband. The favorite thing I made, and got the most complements on, was a necklace of antique bobbins. I hot glued them to a sheet of paperboard in a random arrangement, and then tied it on with a ribbon. I also found a bird cage on super sale, and stuck a crow from a past Halloween costume in it. I hooked it onto a metal belt, and I called myself a steampunked ornithologist.

For the boyfriend, we got a top hat at a costume store, and I made the goggles from spice jar lids and an old belt. I found the vest at the Goodwill, and was too lazy to sew on fancier buttons, so I just hot glued them over the originals.

thanks for looking!
