1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Red-Heeled Sock HORSE on: February 25, 2008 02:58:26 PM

So it's finally finished! My lovely sock horse that I just HAD to make after I found a giant model of a horse. This little guy isn't squishy, it's tailored to fit over a really detailed horse sculpture. : ) The horseshoes are made of felt and contrast stitched on...the eyes are buttons, the yarn hair is rooted and the eyelashes/eye rim is embroidered.

It's all sewn by hand and I'm very proud! It turned out so cool (I think anyway). It probably took about 4 pairs of socks...this guy is pretty big: 19"H, 24"L, 8"W

Agreed on U-city. Depending on where you rent, he could potentially walk to school.

That's where I live and I rent a 2 bdrm for $650/mo. It's a fun area. Probably the best culture st. louis has to offer IMO.

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: I have the 1st issue of CRAFT magazine from creators of MAKE on: October 20, 2006 11:06:28 AM
I have a subscription and there's no sign of CRAFT in or around my mailbox. I've tried to email them and they just replied -

Thank you for the email. The 1st issue will start going to the printer
shortly.  Please allow some time since this was recently started.

Best Regards,

Craft Magazine

Start going to the printer shortly?  I thought this was already on newsstands! I'm trying to be patient since this is a DIY mag and it's brand-new, but they should be a little nicer to their charter subscribers.

6  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Modern Quilters on: October 11, 2006 11:25:57 AM
Hi all -

I am doing some research on modern quilting (hard to research something so overlooked!) and I am looking for specific kinds of artists. I'm already familiar with kaffe fasset and jane sassaman, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any more quilting/fiber artists with a more modern flair like the ones I mentioned.

Artists with a larger body of work would probably be better for what I'm needing.

Any links would be greatly GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much!
7  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / EUROPE / Vienna, Austria? on: October 06, 2006 07:21:55 AM
Hi -

I'm visiting my friend (an American who is studying abroad for a semester) in Vienna at the end of November.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend cool places to go while I'm there. Of course I'm interested in museums and such, but that info is easy for me to get. I'm more interested in finding out about things off the beaten path that aren't in travel guides.

Any tips would be helpful!
