1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: iPod Cozies on: October 05, 2007 11:08:54 AM
my problem is that i can't use vinyl or plastic as if i had a regular ipod. it's got a screen like an iphone so i have to be able to get to it and keep it super sensitive.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / iPod touch on: October 05, 2007 08:53:39 AM
i just got an ipod touch for my birthday (go mom!), and i wanted to knit/crochet a case for it. i need to be able to access the screen, but i don't want to have to take it out all the time. i thought about adapting a couple of other patterns i've found, but i'm at a loss. suggestions?
3  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: baby's first tattoo on: May 28, 2006 01:28:08 PM
Did you do duplicate stitch or intarsia for the design? I found the instructions contradicted the blurb a little bit regarding the design.

Msjzbl

i did it in intarsia, but if i could go back i'd duplicate stitch it.  it made it a little bulky (nothing a little blocking couldn't fix).

thanks!  be sure to post a picture of yours when you're done... i bet that'll be cute Smiley
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Gored Skirt on: May 27, 2006 02:01:41 PM
i saw this pretty little skirt in the winter '05 interweave knits (http://www.interweave.com/images/imagesknit/img_knit_backissue/toc_win05/goredskirt.jpg) ... it looks so sleek and classy. it had gores to make it wider at the bottom and looked the sort to be worn with a nice white shirt to work.

i changed the yarn & colors and got this crazy thing instead:

it turned out SO nicely. i'm quite proud Smiley the waist shot is to show the finishing at the top. i changed it a wee bit and have a new love of i-chords. heh. the large gores are pink and the small ones are fuchia, if you can't tell.

i used karaoke (soy silk/wool blend) and it's now my new fav yarn. it's warm like wool, but has just enough silk to have a little bit more drape. i taught it as a class at the store where i work and none of my students used the same yarn. one cotton/acryillic, one 100% acryllic, and one wool/mohair blend. i can't wait to see them when they're done. woo!
5  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / baby's first tattoo on: May 27, 2006 01:50:22 PM
hello all.  i just completed my first baby sweater (so much quicker than a whitney-size sweater).... here it is in all it's glory. i made it for a girl who graduated with me.  it's so odd now that my college friends are having kids.  we must be getting old! har har.

and of course, modeled by the closest baby-size thing i own

notice the slight buttonhole alteration.  i figured that snaps + merino + baby might not be so good.  heh. enjoy!
6  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: Cupcake, w00t! on: May 22, 2006 02:56:52 PM
I couldn't achieve guage either, but I think this pattern is sized on the small side anyway.

I used a 6mm hook (I can't remember what the pattern called for) and made a medium (I am usually a small) and it was fine.

I made 2 and I shortened the second one by 6 rows...I really dislike the length of this.

my gauge was off on length and width... how does that affect following the pattern to length?
7  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: How easy are the clothing patterns in this book? on: May 19, 2006 12:24:58 AM
I started one of the summer sweaters (cupcake) Saturday evening and finishesd the back and front by late Sunday afternoon.  It was VERY easy.  I don't know how it will fit yet of course but holding the pieces up to me looks A-OK!

I did have problems with the guage.  I had too many stitches even with a 6MM (pattern calls for 5.5mm) and going to a 6.5mm would make it to "holey".  Sooooooo I went with a 5.5mm and just made a "medium" instead of a "small".  Of course I checked my measurements with the diagram as I went.  It came out just between a small and medium which for me is perfect.  The finished measurements for a small were too small I think, smaller than other patterns I have done.

I plan to do the tank top next.

The "unseamly" sweater is awesome too but I am having a hard time achieving guage on that too, so I will have to figure it out.

The "Crochet Answer Book" has a formula to use when you just cannot achieve guage.

Funny, with "Cool Crochet" I had a hard time with guage in that I always had fewer stitches and so far in "Happy Hooker" I have always had too many.  Go figure!

i was having the same problem and was completely perplexed!  i learned to crochet... approximately last week.  i'm a knitter mostly, but i needed something new.  and i met debbie stoller when she came to my yarn store (where i work) and i was sold. heh. but thanks for the gauge advice!
8  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: Cupcake, w00t! on: May 19, 2006 12:12:13 AM
i was having the same problem!  i'm using plymouth wildflowers dk (cotton/acryllic) and am having the hardest time with my gauge.  i've gone up to a J and am still a few stitiches too small (last count was 16sts over 4").  i'm afraid if i go up anymore it'll be too see through for my taste. any suggestions or ideas about what's going on here?

i think i'm just going to do a little reworking on the pattern, because i'm not digging the openness that may come with going up a size (or two). i do it with knitting, why not crocheting?  did i mention this is my first project? heh.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / so much yarn... on: May 12, 2006 12:00:12 AM
one of the curses perks of working in a yarn store is the never ending supply/temptation of yarn that i get to sort through before anyone else. i've recently acquired some pretties in small quantities (you take what you can get on sale days).  i've got:

  • 2 skeins orange and green of debbie bliss merino dk
  • 2 skeins blue debbie bliss wool cotton
  • 1 skein green cascade pima silk
  • 1 skein gray rowan polar

any project suggestions?  i hesitate to buy a one skein book... i was attempting to save money here. (hah... is that possible when you're a knitter?) any feedback would be very appreciated Smiley
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / from ugly to fabulous in just one day... on: April 03, 2006 10:19:55 PM
i had this chair:
and although it was very comfy and delightful to sit in, it needed a makeover.

i just moved into a new place, so it was time to do something drastic. so i hit up the fabric depot and voila:

it's a little sloppy, but it's pretty now!  a day off and a staple gun...
