1  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / Organizing a Zine Fair in the Twin Cities! on: March 01, 2009 06:57:01 PM
Hello there!

I'm new to the area as of sept 08. I am a zinester and am looking to reach out to other zinesters/crafters in the area. I would love to orchestrate a Zine Fair in the near future and was wondering if anyone would be interested in participating and selling/swapping their wares? I find my friend's in other parts of the world have zine fairs all the time but I have yet to find a lot here, as well as I'm trying to find other zinesters to meet to possibly have weekly meetups to help inspire each other and work on our projects together.

If you are at all interested in this or know anyone who would be interested in this could you please let them know, and either respond to this post or email me @ jemnifur@gmail.com

You can check out some of my zines on my etsy jemnifur.etsy.com . I just put out a new issue and am working on the next one already, pretty excited but would like to be more in a scene with it and have more people interested in the zine scene!

Thanks,
Jem
2  Illinois / Illinois: North / Crafty Group for Rolling Meadows , Palatine, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, etc. on: March 03, 2006 06:47:08 AM
Hello All,

I had been looking for a way to make some friends and meet some new people in particular people who enjoy doing some form of crafts, So I thought I would try my hand at organizing some sort of a crafty group get-together to be held either at my place [ in rolling meadows, but right next to schaumburg, arlington heights and palatine ] , or at another's place or another place that we happen to come by.

I figure we all put in our most available days and then decide on one day a week to meet up and either one person teaches everyone a new craft, we all work on seperate crafts we all bring, or something else that we all decide on..

Small snacks and beverages can be brought or had while we have the meetings.. [ if held at my house I will definatly want to make many cute things to share with everyone ] ..

Other than that, I would just like to see if anyone is interested in having a crafty meet-up, I know there are some other meet-ups [ although i'm not sure if they are still active ] in the city and so forth, but none of those are close to me [ or I didn't find any ] I would like to stay in my local area, and I found there are a lot of people just in schaumburg so I"m sure that we can find a nice group [ or a big group ] of people to join in on the fun, and we can all make a lot of new friends this way also!

If anyone is interested, please don't hesitate to put in your two cents to this post or a message to me!

Thanks for looking!

Much Love,
Jem.

4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Lip Balm....please help me with my research! on: September 30, 2005 09:04:53 AM
Hi All

I made my first batch of Lip Balm on wednesday, It's very useable but
i want my recipe to be a bit more firm and more sweeter, I only put one teaspoon of
raw honey in it so I guess that doesn't cut it, so I think I"ll make another batch today
altering the recipe some...
I seriously am getting obsessed and researching out the yin-yang for everything Lip Balm related on the internet, i've gone through craftgrrl on livejournal, lots of craftster.org forum threads and lots of random google searches for lip balm, the information is kind of confusing, there are lots of ways to do it ..

And well I have a few questions for those of you out there who are in knowledge with Lip Balm.

Do you have any good recipes?...the only
ingredients I"m using right now are [ Sunflower Oil / Shea Butter / Soy Wax / Raw Honey / & a Flavor Oil ] I couldn't find any 100% natural cocoa butter anywhere around these parts [ i got the shea butter @ whole foods for WAY too much] but I was trying to
avoid ordering online for the time being because I want to try out the recipes now!

I get confused about the oils and butters:
how many of each MINIMUM do you need to make a lip balm.
how many can you put into one lip balm and still get lip balm?
how much of each part should you put in to make it lip balm?
do some oils and butters work better together than others?
Which ones do you recommend?
Which is better for your lips soy or bees wax?
Are there other kinds of wax or substitutes [ i'm looking for all natural though ]?
Are there all natural colorants out there, and where to get those and how much to use? How do you do test runs for your lip balms so you don't use up all your containers on batches you don't particularly like?
What can I use to make the lip balm last longer?
How do I make the lip balm more firm?
What to add to the mix to make it sweet and how much is recommend for basic sweetness or EXTRA sweetness?
What can I add for medicated uses, or what can I add for uv protection?

Yeah that is a long list of questions I have on the subject, I want to make something all natural, firm, & sweet. So I gotta research, research, research, to make the besttttt stuff!
