1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Handmade spiral notebook supplies and techinques? on: January 08, 2010 10:45:27 AM
Hey I am new to most paper crafts but I really want to make some spiral notebooks out of recycled materials. I'm having a lot of trouble finding the right supplies though. I found some professional places selling wire or plastic spiral binding but it says it is for binding machines. Can I buy that stuff and bind it by hand? I also see the wire binding with the double loops that looks good for binding by hand, but I'm having trouble finding a place to buy it online that gives me enough information to buy the right size.

The notebooks I want to make right now will be approx. 2.5" by 3.5" so I want a fairly close together and small rings. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!  Smiley
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Crockpot Granola with blueberries and walnuts on: January 08, 2010 09:09:22 AM
So I love me a good crock pot recipe, but I'm wondering about the texture of this granola opposed to baking it in the oven. Aren't crock pots all about sealing in the moisture and stuff? Is the granola dry and crunchy at all? I just see this ending in a crockpot full of oatmeal mush. lol Unless you don't put on the lid or something? More details on this would  be awesome! Smiley Thanks.

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! I forgot that you need to vent the lid!  Embarrassed  I did it with a wooden spoon but you can do it with an old chopstick or what have you.  Geeeeez. Updating the first post now.

ohhh! haha no problem. that makes more sense now. I might have to try this soon because store bought granola is so expensive.

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Dexter Premiere Party Planning on: August 06, 2009 09:14:19 AM
What great ideas! I like the barbie key chains idea for favors. I had been trying to think of some sort of favor or something to give out. Splattering blood sounds fun but I'm pretty sure there is no way that could be contained without ruining clothes, furniture and lives. lol

I found some clear plastic drop cloths at the dollar store, they are giant and going to be PERFECT for covering furniture and walls and stuff. Not quite sure yet how I'm going to get them up on the walls because our walls are retarded, but I'll figure something out.

I picked up some crappy fondant today to mess around with. I've never used it before so I need to practice before I make the real cakes (whatever they may be ). I'm going to try coloring it and making skin texture and then covering a cake of course.

I went ahead and started a new topic over in the party planning section for the new season premiere. I hope everyone will come join the conversation and share ideas! Wink http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=315860.0
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Dexter Premiere Party Planning on: August 04, 2009 08:53:02 AM
So I posted my cupcakes from my last premiere party over on the dessert section. But this year I want to go all out and theme the crap out of this party!  Cheesy

For those of you who don't know, Dexter is a TV series on Showtime about a serial killer that only kills other serial killers. It's an awesome show. http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/home.do It premieres September 27th! Yay!

I would love to hear about anyone else's Dexter parties or their ideas for future ones. Here are some ideas I had along with questions.

For decoration goes I thought I could drape plastic drop cloths or plastic wrap over the walls. I would love to do it all over the house and furniture but we will see how expensive and difficult that gets.  Roll Eyes I also am going to try and find some of that crime scene tape they have during Halloween and put that around in places. And maybe some framed blood spatter. That would obviously be very easy and inexpensive to make.

For tableware I'm thinking I want to get clear plastic plates and blood spatter them on the underside so you get the cool look without having paint in your food. haha But does anyone know what type of paint I should use for that? I want it to stick on there well and not rub off on peoples hands. Maybe just a paint that's maybe for plastic or something? Or should I go ahead and like spray a clear sealant over it too?

For the food I'm going Cuban! I'm going to make Cuban Midnight sandwiches. Maybe have some plantain and other chips. Not sure what else though, would love some ideas!

Still thinking about the dessert too. Here are the cupcakes I made for last year.

I made these for Halloween too so I don't want to make them again. But definitely some kind of cake. Maybe various severed body parts?

Ok I think that's it! I hope other people share my love for Dexter and share their awesome crafty ideas.  Grin

No I havn't read it, I thought it wasn't out until September. Or did you get a UK version? lol

Yeah I was trying to think what all I could blood spatter. I'm still not sure what kind of dessert I'm going to make yet. Maybe body part cakes or something. It would be totally awesome if i could make an entire person cake and then saran wrap it to the table like he does. But that's A LOT of cake. lol  so yeah maybe just a few severed body parts.

They just released the trailer for the new seaon! Oh man it is going to rock! You can see it here- http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/comiccon/home.do?source=m_dexter_cc_facebook

So I'm thinking about makign blood spatter plates too. If I can get those clear plastic plates I could spatter red paint on the underside and that way it would still be food safe!

I'm definitely going to make the cuban sandwiches with maybe some plantain chips or something. I've got 2 months left to plan for all this. Fun!

oh i like that! I could use that classic halloween recipe for "witches fingers" http://www.britta.com/HW/HWr.html#fingers. and paint the almonds different colors.

I've thought of other ideas too. Here are a few

-cover the walls with large sheets of plastic wrap
-crime scene tape is a must
-framed blood spatter
-blood orange cocktails
-maybe some donuts

and for actual non dessert food maybe I should make some sort of Cuban food

Well I'm already plotting for the season premiere months from now. I hate to make the same cupcakes, but these were so great. I wonder what else I could do.  Huh Maybe make some needles to stick in some of them.

I wonder if I could make black pasta and make little filled pasta pouches to look like black trash bags filled with body parts! Cheesy

Anyone else have ideas?
