31  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cross-stitch dragon series on: May 25, 2006 07:38:33 PM
This is a set of five Elemental Dragons--I downloaded them from the Dragon Dreams cross-stitch website a few years ago, and stitched them for my daughters.  They have pride of place in their bedroom--hung above the bearded dragon's terrarium!
The first two are the dragons of Fire and Air; then Earth, Water and Spirit.

32  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Miriam's graduation skirt--with model shot! on: May 25, 2006 07:00:30 PM
So, my Miriam graduated from high school today.  Her graduation was at 2 p.m., and between 9 a.m. and noon I cut out and sewed this skirt.

Miriam modeling--ain't she cute?  I'm proud of her.

33  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Skirt for my baby girl Miriam on: May 14, 2006 11:17:21 AM
Never mind my "baby" is 18!
This is the first skirt I've made in quite some time.  The pattern is New Look 6953, and the fabric came from the clearance table at Joann's.  One hour cutting out and sewing--voila!

34  COOKING / Dessert / Gotta looove those no-bake cookies! on: May 10, 2006 11:19:40 AM
Does anyone still do these?  I do, and I love them!! I'm going to make some tonight.
If you have never done 'em, here's my recipe:

No-Bake Cookies

2 cups sugar
cup (one stick) margerine
cup milk
2 tbsp cocoa
cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups quick oats
In heavy saucepan, stir sugar, margerine, milk and cocoa together.  Bring to a full rolling boil over medium heat and boil, stirring, for three minutes.  Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter until melted, stir in vanilla, then stir in oats.  Immediately drop onto waxed paper and let cool completely.
35  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Great find--what to do? on: May 09, 2006 04:01:21 PM
So, I scored this beauty on E-bay for $10--

And now I want to embellish it.  But I have some questions.  If I decoupage stuff onto it, should I spray paint it first?  I have done only one decoupage project, and the metal was already painted.  Ideas and suggestions would be most welcome!
36  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Mozart and Mod Podge=my homage to the Met on: April 07, 2006 02:22:24 PM
I posted this in the Bag-A-Month Craftalong thread--see that for details--but I thought I would post it here, too.  I spent about $2.50 for the sticky-back felt lining and the brass loops for the strap.   The can, strap and Mod Podge I already had, and the photos are from Opera News magazine.

37  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Jeans with grommets-->denim purse! on: February 02, 2006 03:11:09 PM
This is my January bag from the Bag-a-Month Craftalong.  I used jeans that already had grommets in the leg seam and made a simple jordy-style bag with Velcro closure.  I lined it with navy fabric scavenged from a pillowcase, and used a piece of seatbelt webbing for a strap.  I didn't interface it, and probably should have, but I did put a piece of stiff cardboard on the bottom between the bag and the lining to reinforce it.

38  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My new green bag on: February 02, 2006 01:15:34 PM
I posted this in the Bag-A-Month Craftalong thread, but I thought I would post it here, too.  The fabric is olive-green brocaded twill, on sale at Joann's, and the lining fabric came from the clearance table at Wal-Mart.  I used plastic tubing rather than purchased handles, so the bag will go over my shoulder.  It's hard to see in the pic, but there is also an interior pocket for my cell.  I really like it!

39  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Sharing my girls' fave soup recipe with the world! on: January 06, 2006 10:30:31 AM
I make Spicy Potato Soup for my girls at least twice a week--it's their absolutely favorite soup.  I like it, too.  So, here's how.

Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
3-4 medium potatoes, cut into chunks
3 8-oz cans tomato sauce
4 cups water
Salt, pepper, tabasco or other pepper sauce to taste

Brown the beef and drain well. Place in large stock pot. Add other ingredients, cook over medium heat until potatoes are soft.  You can also add red kidney beans to this to make it more chili-like, but none of us grls like them, so we don't.
Enjoy!
40  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Opera playbill into purse? on: November 22, 2005 01:37:41 PM
I recently realized a twenty-year dream, going to the Metropolitan Opera in New York--not only that, but I went to hear my favorite opera singer sing Mozart at the Met!!  Okay, I know you're probably not as excited as I was, but here's the thing.  I have the playbill from the performance, and I'm looking for ideas for how to use it to make a purse.  I don't want to do the folded-page woven thing, because the cover has a wonderful photo of the opera house, and I want to keep the pages that list the opera and the cast intact.  I thought about using clear contact paper and duct tape, but--I just don't know.  Anyone have some less-obvious ideas for this?
