I think it would work great--as usual, I would just make sure that the gauge is close  to that shown in the pattern, or be prepared to modify.  Cotton/wool sounds really nice as a lighter-weight spring cardi.  The only complaint I have about mine is that it's WARM.   The yarn I used was VERY different from that in the SnB book--much bulkier and fuzzier.  I did a biggish gauge swatch, and a lot of math (yay 8th grade algebra!) to figure out how many sts to cast on and how many decreases to do at the armholes and front,  but it all worked out in the end.  I'd love to see pics of yours when you finish!

Hey, thanks!   I have to say, props to Laura Jean. This is a great pattern--infinitely wearable, easy to modify.  I think round two is going to include some of the lozenge lace pattern as seen in the 'shimmer' pattern in the most recent Knitty.

Okay, I hope the picture posting works.  I made this in an alpaca/wool blend by Filatura di Crossa, with Rowan Kidsilk Haze (silk & mohair blend) for the trim.  (It sounds like the colors might be eerily similar to yours, ziza--I want to see pics!) Because the kidsilk is so fine, I used four strands together rather than three. I also found that, since I used such bulky yarn, my buttonholes were so huge that no button known to woman would stay put.  The regular holes in the crochet were just fine for the toggle beads I found, though.  



One other thing--I really like the eyelet effect around the bottow, which was created using a simple YO, k2tog pattern, but it does create a slant in your fabric. I think if I had alternated the YO, k2tog pattern with a YO SSK pattern I wouldn't have had this problem.

From a long-time lurker, first-time poster . .  .

This cardigan was my first 'real' sweater.  I used a bulky alpaca/wool blend, and worked in some YO/K2tog eyelets to lighten it up a bit.  I'm pretty dang proud of it, even if it is so warm that I can't comfortably wear it indoors.  I'll post pics as soon as I figure out how.

Only one moment of confusion--when sewing the sleeves into the shoulders, are you supposed to sew the short edge of the sleeve to the shoulder, then use the two little ledges on either side of the sleeve as the selvedge when sewing the sleeve seam? I ended up needing to use the entire top length of the sleeve to set it into the shoulder, but that may have to do with how I modified the pattern to account for the bulky yarn.  Anyone figure this out?
