1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / renaissance bodice...reborn on: November 08, 2005 02:18:21 PM
so i'm drawn to all the cute little laced-up tops peppering these boards, but i can't seem to separate 'corset' from 'oppression of women' in my mind.  one of racehorse87's lovely costumes (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=58628.0) made me realize that what i wanted was a bodice.

i just used mcalls 4107, because it was 99 cents the day i went to joann fabrics.  ms. mcall has this idea i should wear a 12, but i made a 6 and it's still too big.  maybe i can bulk up a little by the time it's warm enough to actually wear it.

there was supposed to be lacing on the back, too, but i left it out, translated one of my boyfriend's tattoos into felt applique, and slapped that back there instead.  i haven't really worked with felt since grade school...i hope i didn't make it too delicate.

less talk, more pictures.

this is my first completed project really inspired by craftster.  so thanks, craftster!

my ancient digital camera can't quite capture all the details...let me know if you want anything described.  there's a little paint (just the bluish stuff), some electrical tape, and a drawing i did that was collecting dust in there, but most of it is stuff i picked up off the ground or rescued from the clutches of the trash/recycling (lots of junk mail).  it's supposed to be about my boyfriend's near-death experience (which i've already gone on about in the 'show off your sweeties' thread).  i haven't quite decided if it 'works' or not.

i'd feel weird competing for rubber stamps with something like this, so i'm hereby disqualifying myself by admitting that it's only 11 inches high.  but i really would appreciate some feedback...hope that's okay.
3  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / ruffly-collared blouse on: October 04, 2005 06:09:13 PM
so i've been knitting (but i promise this is a sewing question) a sweater from rowan's 'vintage style.'  several sweaters in the book are photographed with these chiffony-looking little collars peeking out from underneath.  'salina,' 'demi' and the purple cardigan with all the little buttons ('joy') on this page, for example...

i really like the idea of prettying up a sweater (and hopefully protecting my neck from scratchy wool) with something like this...so does anyone know of a pattern for a ruffly-collared blouse?  it would be nice to have something that looked good on its own, but maybe i should just try gathering a bit of fabric and sewing it to the neckline of a plain old shirt...
