I got this idea from a "metal clothes for kids" site, but it was a skirt to put over a onesie, so we went to search for a pattern that would suit this idea well.
What we (my mom and I) used was a Minnie Mouse model from a costume patterns book, with red satin bow & trimming. I thought the poofy sleeves and contrasting collar would be over the top but it works pretty well. And if you're 2 years old, there's no such thing as over the top.

I can't count the number of shocked olded ladies I've encountered. I can't wait to get black lacquer shoes to match. I've tried to find red shoes, but they're all for older girls
