Front: "My mom wouldn't put my art on the fridge cuz she didn't want it cluttered."
Back: "I think that stunted my creativity substantially."

The heart flips up to reveal the entire message.  It reads:

I tell people I LOVE my job... But I only stay for the benefits.

Poem reads:
"to my mother
to my father
it's your son or
it's your daughter
are my screams
loud enoug for
you to hear me
should i turn this up for you?

i sit here locked inside my head
remembering everything you said
this silence gets us nowhere
gets us nowhere
way too fast

the silence
is what kills me
i need someone
here to help me
but you don't know
how to listen
and let me make
my decisions

all your insults
and your curses
make me feel like
i'm not a person
and i feel like
i am nothing
but you made me

so do something
cause i'm fucked up
because of you
need attention
attention you couldn't give"

The marker says "For you" and "I wish I could do more to help you, I *heart* u"

This card had a light purple coverlet with a little strip of paper underneath.  The paper reads: "I wish I could spend the rest of my life under my duvet."  On the back it reads "Sweet Dreams."

This card was made with a Midol box.  Here's the scan of the back:

It reads:  "I hate Depo! It has ruined my cycle.  I started normaling out (after one year), but then it hit again and I am still messed up.  I'm so afraid it will ruin my mariage..."

26  Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along in Craftalongs by halblingefrau on: January 08, 2008 07:55:59 PM
Finally, I was able to get photos off my camera.  My first poppet was a swap item for the 12 Days of Christmas Swap.  Here's hoping my partner takes a better photo than I did.  Anyway, here is Martina in all her glory.   I learned a lot from her, and I have a better idea on how to make clothes.

27  Opinions on colors for kitchen in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by halblingefrau on: December 31, 2007 10:30:21 AM
Ok, I live in an apartment and, as people move out, they are completely renovating the places.  We're going to be there for awhile still (like at least 4 years), and the landlords don't care if I paint (yay!), I just can't do mosaic on the walls or anything.

I want to start with my kitchen.  It's ugly, old, and boring.  I've been collecting red appliances, red kitchen linens, etc.  I'm trying to think of a good color to paint the walls, and for some reason I thought of robin's egg blue.  Do you think that would look good?  I am not sure if I want to paint the cabinets (don't want to deal with the old screws and hinges), so do you have any ideas on how to fix them?  Contact paper?  I have a bunch of silver metallic contact paper.  Below are (old) photos of the kitchen, back when it was clean and uncluttered.  I really am digging the robin's egg blue idea, but as you can see we don't have a lot of exposed walls so I don't know if it will show up well.  Besides, I was hoping to do a faux tin backdrop for the sink.

28  Moray Eel (my first embroidery project) in Needlework: Completed Projects by halblingefrau on: October 26, 2007 07:22:00 AM
I made this for a swap (she's already received).  It was my first embroidery project and I'm really happy with how it came out.  I didn't want to fill the entire body of the eel, so I painted the fabric and then embroidered the details.

The bag:

Ok, I was able to take photos.  They're kind of crappy since our house has bad lighting.  I tried to use sunlight and still they didn't come out fantastic (but the colors are right on).

Here's all the loot:

I got a cable knit scarf (her first cable attempt and 2nd FO ever!!), a circ needle holder (needed this so bad), a DPN holder (my other was getting too full), and a knitting journal (so cute).

Here's a closeup of the needle holders.  I love the fabrics she chose.

And here's a closeup of the knitting journal, with the extra SQL code goodness.  Smiley

In case you can't see, it reads:
select *
from projects
where type = "knitting";

Love everything, thanks photojenn!!!
