1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Vote for Reader's Choice Best of Interweave Knits on: October 17, 2007 11:44:59 PM
I'm really in love with Eunny Jang's Venezia pullover from Winter '06 and wish I'd bought a copy of the magazine then. Now all I can do is cross my fingers and hope it makes it on the list.

I'm working on 2 from the 06/07 Tendances, the Nautical Jacket. I have a habit of ordering one of Phildar's catalogs a year directly from them, but this is the first time I've ever sat down and tried to make anything from one. Everything looks pretty good so far-- my pattern's mostly just knitting 5 large panels of stockinette and then folding them over later.

I've been working on a Phildar pattern for the past month, so I think I can help. (Or at least say what I've been doing.)

"continue in fantasy stitch [probably listed at the beginning of the pattern] in binding off each side."

"Every ten rows, 1 stitch. Do this 4 times."

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Do you have a favorite color for yarns? on: September 22, 2007 07:40:02 PM
Natural fibers, preferably wool, in dark colors-- brown, forest green, grey, black.

That is quite possibly the most amazing thing I've seen today. I need to make something like this. *swoon*
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pattern suggestions for JCrew sweater on: August 23, 2007 11:21:50 PM
www.phildar.fr has some similar patterns to offer, particularly in this year's and last year's Automne Tendances magazines. I'm not sure if they're available in English, though.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: where to buy small quantities of yarn on: August 15, 2007 07:58:25 PM
Agreed on winding up with various little odds and ends from other projects. If you're not inclined to work on other things and wait, though, there are two ways I know of to get cheap wool yarn. The first is Knitpicks.com, where you can get 100 yards for two bucks (not counting maybe another dollar or two in shipping). The other option is thrifting sweaters to take apart for yarn, though that will gain you considerably more than a couple yards to work with. Both options will set you back less than five bucks and leave you with a fair amount of wool to work with afterwards.

Grumperina's Jaywalkers. I'm making them for my first pair and it's going by so well. Easy, but not boring, and it's a heel flap versus a short row heel.
10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Radioactive crawfish painting on: May 26, 2007 08:51:06 AM
This is my first post here in the Art forum, even if it is my major.  Wink

This is the first real oil painting I did about 3 years back. It's 14" by 20" on watercolor paper. I was never really sure if the painting looked better vertically or horizontally.

If you're interested in progress shots, I have a few hosted on my Flickr account. For the most part I'm happy with this painting, though looking back, I think  should have used watercolors for the background instead of the opaque shade.

(...Hope I'm doing this right...)
