1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Re: amazing...my first time using freezer paper and I love it! [TUTORIAL ADDED!!!] on: September 21, 2005 06:48:59 AM
For UK crafters deprived of freezer paper (I've looked everywhere- we just do not have it in the british isles) you can use sticky back plastic in the printer, i did this the other day to make my mr darcy t-shirt (in anticipation of the new film)
I bought my sticky back plastic from wh smith (1/2 price 74p) found my pic of mr d, cut the plastic to printer size A4 and rolled it about a good deal to make it not quite so curly up then feed into the printer paper side up (if my memory serves correctly) and print your picture. When you cut it out do the corners really well or it tends to stretch if you try and pull it then peel off and stick on whatever you're stencilling. you get no bleeding at all if you put the stencil down carefully.
so do not despair if you can't pop to walmart, although i'd like to- all this cheap fabric everyone finds sounds great.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Yet another 'boyfriends birthday' thread. on: September 15, 2005 06:20:13 AM
my ex was a mechanic and i had a similarly hard time coming up with a suitable gift. Eventually i went down the box of lovely things route including some chocolate cars, personalised key ring and a stencilled t-shirt (don't be afraid of the stencil- so quick, so easy, so proffesional looking, so many tutorials on this site, so many design opportunities, so why don't you do it!) Also included naughty things (i leave this to your imagination) which went down well and the cliched voucher route- 'i will watch the grand prix without complaining etc etc'
good luck- coming from one who knows- you'll need it...
(sorry, i'm sure you're mechanic is nicer than mine)

and i would like to make some sort of shrug/ bolero cardigan thingy with it- any patterns or ideas out there, I knit up a swatch this morning with a pattern of clover lace [like on that wraparound cardi in SnBN] which utterly did not work- too chunky i,m thinking- but i still want a girly edge now my lace aspirations have failed... help please?
