I'm sure you'll find your niche here! The yarn stores are awesome. I find the people who work there really friendly and helpful! Plus they all have regular stich'n bitch meetings! Great way to meet new people!

Here's a good compliation of stores to get you further in your knit addiction:

I totally recommend getting one of those day passes for the TTC and just running around the city checking things out. (It's a little cold out now, but still worth a day slogging through the slush)

If you guys have a car, a schlep out to the suburbs to visit a Michael's would be fun too. You can also check out the asian malls out there like Pacific Mall and/or First Markham Place (they have a japanese yarn store).

At Yonge Eglinton, the Lewiscraft there has been replaced by a Mary Maxim but there's also a bead store somewhere on Yonge around there ...and the cupcake shoppe.  Wink

I don't find the city less/more social than other places. I think you'll have your grumps whereever you go and the people who are happy to sit 'n chat for a bit. Good luck! Have fun exploring!

edited to add:  Check this out too. I think you'll meet lots of fun & friendly people here! http://www.newmindspace.com/
22  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Re: Craft ideas to benefit service dog org? on: January 22, 2007 06:27:45 AM
What about a good dog cookie recipe?

People can either bake them and sell "gourmet" dog treats and/or put the ingredients in a jar and sell them as a "make your own" gourmet dog treat!  For example:

I love the fleece tug toy idea....my dog loves hers. You can also make fleece blankets to sell!  I'm sure may new dog owners would love one.
23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: the BIG yarn stash SHOW OFF! on: January 11, 2007 12:01:19 PM
I'm in denial. I'm afraid to pull out my stash into one big pile. Let's just say that when we moved into our new place, we figured half a closet in the 2nd bedroom was enough for my supplies. Now it's half a closet, two cupboards in the KITCHEN island and two shelves in my clothing closet.

Say, anybody have any issues with bugs? I was just reading an old thread about it. My stuff is in bags rather than containers...asking for trouble? What do you think?

My boyfriend's a neat freak so I don't want to give him any more excuses to stop my yarn addiction. Actually, if I saw a bug in my stash, I'd freak out too.

Happy New Year! I'm in Toronto, Canada!  I'm 29... work full time and volunteer the majority of my free time to a children's community theatre company.  I just got a puppy about a month ago and it's been so awesome. I love to knit, felt and learn about new crafts.  I have a new sewing machine that I haven't done much more than look at. I'm itching to learn how to use it!

Here's my list: [thanks so much for taking the time to look through it!]

1. Taggie Blanket kit - fabric, ribbons and instructions. I would love to learn how to make some for some very pregnant friends! ie. What the heck is minky fabric?

1a. Taggie Blanket for a girl  THANKS SO MUCH, greenapples!!!
2. Stenciling kit for onesies, bibs and burb cloths - it's a baby making virus and all my friends have it!

3. Caron Simply Soft Yarn - i can't find it here. I would love colours in white, grey, black, blues, greens, chocolate brown, reds... enough to make a hat or mittens!

4. pincushion - i don't have one! I would adore one of those lovely flower pin cushions that have been cropping up everywhere!   Thanks so much LaughingLark! You rock!

5. soap making kit - especially the teeny tiny soaps found here!
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=965.0

6. sewing kit - I have visions of making kanzashi flowers, tote bags, fabric headbands, cinnamon scented hot pads and quilts. My fabric stash is pitiful. And I'm pretty clueless about where to begin. Huh  A project to get my started would be fantastic.

7. Supplies - yarn, wool roving, wool felt, ribbon, fabric (fleece, cotton)... if you're cleaning out your closet after the holidays....*hint hint nudge nudge*   THANKS kayrun!! I can't wait!

8. A doggy bag - as in a diaper bag for my puppy! I don't know why, but we can't travel light when we go visiting. There's the poop bag, toys, wipes, treats, food, towel, paper towels in case of accidents etc.

9. Small fabric bag - like a lunch bag or something shaped like a typical gift bag but sturdier - if it can be embroidered with my puppy's name on it, that'd be so awesome... she can take it with her to puppy daycare and it can hold her leash, treats, toys and food for the day.  (I know what you're thinking...puppy daycare?!!!)

10. A fabric belt - something in pink, white, brown, blue...fun/flirty...

11. Tissue paper holder

12. amigurumi  - cat, dog, turtle...

13. fabric headbands

14. Pink Sock Monkey like this one:http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=126018.0

15. lipbalm holder/keychain

Surprise me from my wists!  There's lots of loves and stuff I drool over on it!http://www.wists.com/Ember77

thanks so so so so much for looking!

29  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Production line gifts. on: November 08, 2006 06:55:36 AM
Oooh! For those family nights, you could include some mixed cds for holiday music and maybe some board games for a Game Night?

I'm doing some of those food gifts too. For the guys, I'm putting together a meat seasoning because the only thing my guys do is bbq. And pairing it with some spicy chili cashews that I'm making.

For my coworkers, I"m making cupcakes and packaging them up nicely.

I bought some glass ornaments on sale awhile ago and I'm planning on doing some etching to personalize them for family members.

I wish I sewed! Fleece hats would be awesome for all the kids!
