11  2 Hats 5 Pics in Felting: Completed Projects by SlickMariaVic on: June 08, 2008 03:45:52 PM
So I recently got into both wet and needle felting and wanted to show off some of my work. First off is a vintage inspired pillbox hat with an orchid "flower spike" on the side. I made this to show at my local orchid show.

Here is a close up of the flowers on the side. I am especially fond of the second to the bottom that is made to look as though it is in the process of opening.

And the front
Secondly, a felt fedora. They sell fedora blocks online, but I was unwilled to shell out 30 bucks so I ended up buying one of those cheap plastic hats from a local costume shop. I covered to whole thing in duct tape to reinforce it and shoved an old sweater inside. After making the basic felted shape I did the final fulling on top of the block with just tons of hot soap and water. A bit of blue velvet ribbon, a gold vintage button, and a peacock feather and I have myself a feminine version of the classic Indiana Jones hat Wink

12  Re: Tea/Cofee Cozy Swap in The Swap Gallery by SlickMariaVic on: June 08, 2008 03:35:27 PM
As promised....I requested a freeform cozy from Superhooker and she went to town creating something that reflected my love of plants. Here is the whole she-bang

The cozy on my pot (perfect fit btw!), a gorgeous new mug which is filled with two cute leaf shaped coasters, and two types of tea. One of the teas is the blooming type that I've always wanted to try!

Another view

A shot of the bottom...too cool!
Thanks bunches!

13  Re: A Jar of Mini Whimsies Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by SlickMariaVic on: May 20, 2008 12:36:37 PM
Finally I post pictures! Sorry to tigercub_wabbit for the delay. It was such an awesome package too!

Here is the whole thing unloaded unto my floor. A few things are missing, however. There were actually two bags of the peanut snacks in the background. I just ate one from the time I have recieved my jar and the time I took pictures Wink Also there were a few adorable apple hair clips, which my sister snagged, and a long strand of mirrors and beads, which my mother snagged and put in her garden.

Her handmade items. Several pieces of handmade jewelry and an adorable polymer clay covered altoid tin

My favorite items! Two great keychains and a bracelet intended to ward off the evil eye.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I'm dyeing fiber right now for the felted coz I'm making for SuperHooker. I found a few more sources of inspiration out there, this time from Ebay.

And I just love the fabric for this one since I adore the Art Nouveau style

And my absolute favorite! An antique vintage cozy dripping with indian inspired beadwork. Here is the link

15  Re: Fiber Friday - 12/28/07 Post-Christmas Goodness in Spinning: Completed Projects by SlickMariaVic on: December 28, 2007 08:46:29 PM
Heres a singles yarn I spun up and am completely clueless what to do with. Its so fine I'd like to make some sort of lace project out of it, but at the same time its "art yarn" quality would really take away from any detailed stitch pattern. Any ideas?

16  Anthropologie Hooded Scarf KO in Knitting: Completed Projects by SlickMariaVic on: December 24, 2007 08:01:24 PM
The 160$ inspiration
The result, a hooded scarf for my boyfriend's sister for Christmas, finished at the very last minute! I tried to make it as close as possible, except I didn't add the pockets. Oh and I used Wool-ease. My sister is modeling  Wink

17  Re: Hand Embroidered Patch Swap Gallery - Send before Nov-27 in The Swap Gallery by SlickMariaVic on: November 23, 2007 07:19:16 PM
SewSew:gone terribly, terribly wrong. Where on earth did you get such a crazy picture and or idea. I love it!

Here are my last two patches. I'm off to the post office tomorow!
The picture stinks, but the eyes, leaves, and other random bits are dimensional

Bumbley-bee on satin. I actually put a backing on this one because I was scared the fabric would fray.

I finished my first patch the other day and after I removed it from the hoop and gave it a rinse to remove the markings I realized it was kinda wrinkly Sad I don't know if the fabric is too thin or if it actually shrank when I got it wet. I've never worked with the fabric before so I'm not sure. Its still great, I'm just a bit of a perfectionist. I think I'll put interfacing on the back on my next patch. What do you guys think?

20  *TAMMY*(4 pics) in Knitting: Completed Projects by SlickMariaVic on: August 25, 2007 03:27:51 PM
Horay for a bunch of firsts! My first tammy, my first fair isle project, and the first thing I've made with my handspinning that had a finished result in mind. All of the yarn in this hat was spun and dyed by me except the black, which I used as a model. The fiber is a superwash merino and tencel blend if your curious. This pattern was designed using the Threads knitting around the world book and the Traditional Fair Isle Patterns reprint.

Here is the top and bottom blocking on a plate

and modeled by me
