12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Felt? on: January 13, 2005 04:39:22 PM
Where and how is the best way to buy felt?
Is it cheaper off of a bolt or in sheets from Joanns and how does that compare to the price for sheets at Michael's. Or is it cheapest off the bolt at wal mart?
Chiefly for appliques and such... but I'm still not sure after doing some looking around.

15  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / crafting my way to france on: January 02, 2005 06:16:54 PM
Okay here we go! I'm a 17 year old high school student and I am planning to go on foreign exchange for my senior year (I'm a junior presently.) I've taken five years of French and thus plan to go to France.
I have been accepted by AFS USA for the program already.
A huge issue is that it's going to cost a lot of money. I would love it if I could sell some crafts to raise money. (Total cost is around $10,000, i've applied for financial aid and an academic scholarship but there's no telling.)
On to the next problem. I need inexpensive, quick and very nice crafts to make.
I can sew, knit and crochet. I have access to laser jet and ink jet printers etc.
So, any other great ideas? Donations (money, supplies, ideas?)
16  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / idea for NEXT snb book (if there is one!) on: January 02, 2005 03:28:10 PM
I would love to see each pattern list alternate (preferably less expensive) yarn that each pattern can be made with. As a 17 year old high school student who is trying to save up all my money, I can't afford the yarn suggested and I'm pretty lazy as far as not wanting to figure out what would work (shhh).
It would also be a good idea to say if the pattern would work with lighter or warmer yarns for those who live in different climates.

... just an idea. I am aware that the knitter can figure all of this out themselves but I think it would be a fantastic thing to be included in the book.
17  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / the typical anniversary gift problem on: November 15, 2004 10:24:15 PM
as my 2 year anniversary is rapidly approaching (november 25th, thanksgiving =/) i still have no clue what to get/make for my boyfriend.
i'm having a total blank out.
he's very into astronomy, mathematics, and ayn rand. i don't want to give him any more books (as in novels, not home made), cd's or movies, been there done that.
i want this to be special. things have been shaky lately, i want to show him i care and i want it to be something that is ... i don't know, sweet.
i would really appreciate any ideas.
i'd like to incorporate constellations and the moon or something. he's way more into those than the planets.
18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / $20 belt for less? on: July 06, 2004 07:56:39 PM
So, i saw this very cute belt on urban outfitters... but it's $20. the thing is, it looks like it's just ribbon and stuff. so, i'm wondering, maybe someone could figure out how to make it and them post a tuotorial? i'm really really really bad with making flowers out of ribbon...

19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / good ideas for these skirts? on: June 24, 2004 10:42:39 AM

i got these skirts from my school's band at the end of the year. they are really really old letter girl skirts. since the waist on them is something like 27 inches i can only wear them uncomfortably around my waist.
does anyone have any good ideas for how i might spruce them up and sell them for a couple of bucks on ebay?
20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / my first ever "tshirt surgeries" on: April 08, 2004 08:20:30 PM
