5  $.50 clearance necklace reconstructions in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by imxriotxhere on: October 05, 2009 10:39:12 AM
First and foremost, I apologize for my pictures. They were taken with my DSi, which is sad, because it's actually better than my regular camera Undecided

I picked my favorite one for the teaser shot:) The color of the beads is actually a very light purple.

I found these at Charlotte Russe a few months ago and bought them intending to make each on look completely different from the next. My own little challenge for myself Smiley

This is the original necklace:

Here's the rest!

This one has a button hanging from chain in the middle with roses painted black

This one has a glass pearl flower with gold leaves, and a thin, gold chain.

This one has a vintage key glued to it and covered heavily in clear nail polish.

One of the 'stones' (they're really a speckled plastic) that I removed was made into a pin, painted a lighter, super sparkly green color and adorned with shells I collected this summer on vacation to Florida. I may add lace to the back.

The ropes are painted black, and I also painted flowers on the 'stone', and coated it with nail polish. I use a lot of nail polish in crafts, lol.

I still have a few of the greenish teal 'stones' left to do fun things with, but I'm pleased with how much I got out of this $3 purchase:) I find projects so much more satisfying to think of how much I didn't spend on them:P

Let me know what you think!

6  Noodle bathtub stamps! (img heavy) in CHALLENGE 42 ENTRIES by imxriotxhere on: September 02, 2009 01:04:49 AM

I got super lucky, and got to Dollar General while they were putting everything summer/outdoors on 50-75% clearance!

My materials:

One foam noodle ($.75 on sale)
Set of 3 green washcloths (didn't end up using)
3 container tray ($.50 on sale)
One vinyl table cloth ($2 on sale)
One bottle baby wash ($1.50)
Small storage cups ($1)
Small drops on tempura paints
thread
Acrylic paint (for bubbles on tray)

$5.75 project? I'm so in.

The process!

I used an exacto knife and also a utility knife on the foam to carve shapes. The first one I drew on at first, so there are still sharpie outlines on a few. The rest I just winged. The hardest part of my project was thinking of designs I could do while avoiding the whole in the middle.

This carving process made quite a mess (which my boyfriend was just sooo happy about:P)

Said mess hung out there until I finished the project and finally got to cleaning!
I ended up with 26 stamps, but later made another not pictured here (the bubble), but you will later see anyways.

I will list what the stamp images are when I try them out later!!

Next came the paints! This was the part I was sort of worried about, but then I found this online: http://kidscrafts.suite101.com/article.cfm/body_paints_for_kids and tested it out. I made 10 colors. The brown ended up changing and turning very dark, though I'm not sure why. The light purple I made later on for my testing.

This shows all of the stamps together except I think just one simple shape.

Top row: Moose, and... a moose. Elijah (my nephew) likes mooses!
2nd row: Fudge striped cookie, duck, sun, button, kitty, fishy
3rd row: Heart, flower, spider, tree, top hat, smiley face
4th row: Football, bubble, triangle, doughnut (sprinkled of course!), whale, puppy
5th row: Sea shell, block O (Ohio State fans, of course), leaf, square, bear, circle

Close-ups (because I LOVE the cookie and the doughnut!!)

The paint came off entirely! Not even a tiny bit stained on the grout. Decided to then have a little more fun with them...

...and stamped bubbles all over the walls!

I then made a bag to hold the stamps out of the table cloth (sorry I didn't have a before picture of it, or a standing up-right after picture) and painted simple bubbles on the paint tray.

annnd everything together!

I can't wait to send these to my nephew! My S-I-L said he really digs stuff like this. He's an excellent finger painter at a mere 2 1/2! Thanks for checking my project out, sorry for all the pics, and good luck to all in the challenge! Can't wait to see what else pops up!

7  Mixed media painting... needs some help in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by imxriotxhere on: July 18, 2009 10:16:59 PM

I have a couple ideas for it, though I'm not sure if it'll help much. The first is painting the squid (I think he looks WAY too phallic) with a brown stain to make it a little more... uniform? #2 I was thinking of lining the squid, octopus, and the boats in sharpie, to give it a more cartoony feel, I've been working at it for too long and now need a fresh view of it.

Any suggestions/comments appreciated! Thanks!

8  Elmer the Monster! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by imxriotxhere on: June 04, 2009 07:14:42 AM

As you can see, he makes a great cuddle buddy. Elmer was made for my god daughter, who isn't born just yet. The baby shower is next week and I needed something (or someone) to sit atop my diaper cake and make it look fantastic.

What do you think of him? Smiley

9  A few watercolors... in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by imxriotxhere on: May 15, 2009 10:43:42 PM
Hi! I've been working on my water color skills, because I'm making art for my friend's baby room. A lot of it is nature inspired, because Carolyn(the bestie), wanted to do the room in green and white for her baby girl, Piper. She's due in July:)

This was the first I did... just practicing and it's definitely not done yet...

Next I tried to do flowers...

Then I started working focusing more on masking fluid and made this for the baby-

And made this piece to go with it! Although it has no frame just yet... It's small than the other one... about 4x6"

Any critique you have would be fantastic!! I'm a total newb at this (although I paint with acrylics, and have tried oils once...). Got comments? Awesome as well! Let me know what you think!!

10  Beaded spider necklace (and others) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by imxriotxhere on: May 13, 2009 06:10:03 PM
I saw one the other day SOOOOO VERY SIMILAR to mine, but I hadn't gotten a chance to post pics yet. I wish I had saved her post, because I'd love to refer you to hers, as well! (I'm sorry, if I find your post again, I'll put up a link!!:/) I found it! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=303623.0

One of my recent faves

Shell "bolo" necklace

I've been looking for more ideas on how to use that focus bead, made of shell, and has 4 holes in it. I liked it because it was unique, but now I'm realizing I have no idea what to do with the other 11 that I have!! Ahh!

Skull Peace sign HUGE hippie necklace!

I wish I could get better pictures of this, but it's another one of those thing where you just CAN'T see everything until you're in person.

Lotus pink wire necklace

I made a whole bunch of these for all of the women in my family for mothers day. (ended up making 14 for only family members and 1 for my expecting best friend!)

Simple hand made wire peace sign and hemp necklace-
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/89/l_7ed0bfe4dbaf4a7191518214bffb2d0e.jpg
I'm terrible at making circles, so I bought pre-bent wire hoops to make these with.

The jade pendant is two fishies, I couldn't get the detail to show:(

Hand made fimo bead on a hemp anklet

I love macrame, this was just me fiddling around with basic knots.

Thanks for looking! Comments and critique both welcome and appreciated!
