Hello, everyone! I've been following these posts enthusiastically, but have just now gotten around to introducing myself. I have to say, what a wonderful gathering of intellectual craftsters! It's really heartening to see people with similarly massive workloads making time to make things
I am finishing my Master's thesis and now gearing up to apply to PhD programs. Glutton for punishment? Probably. My degree is in Technical Communication, and my thesis examines the role of narrative vs. instructional videos in multimedia patient education programs. I'm analyzing data I gathered while user-testing a program I helped develop for teens with congenital heart disease. I currently work in industry at a software company since I'm all done with coursework. I hadn't planned on going back to school, but after working for a few years, I realized my heart is in teaching, researching, and learning... sometimes "real world" positions don't really encourage one to think analytically and develop new ways of doing things.
