121  Re: Secret Santa and the like! in Winter Holidays by Haylie on: December 07, 2005 07:45:15 PM
And then friday she gets "K is for Keychains"

(I love the swim one...i think i may have to make myself one, because i think it's wonderful.  The left one is shrinky-dink and the far right one my little sis made!)

Ok, updates! She seemed to like the record bowl & flowers, so that was good. Today i gave her "I is for ice cream" which was good too, methinks. So tomorrow she gets...

C is for Crossword and Collage

(the collage bookmarks i "laminated" with clear packing tape and the crossword is from puzzlemaker.com - you type in the words and clues you want and the website makes it for you..quite awesome)

Outlined in black Sharpie and painted in acrylics:

(I typed a bit long story about why the H and G are missing, but then my computer became unhappy with me and deleted it. And so the moral of the story is be careful to not put shrinky dinks upside down in the oven...)

And so every day, she'll get a card like this:

124  Secret Santa and the like! in Winter Holidays by Haylie on: December 02, 2005 08:32:58 PM
In my school, teachers often set up secret santa give exchanges (altho i go to a public school, so they get new names like "super secret holiday buddy" haha)

I'm sure plenty of you have the same with your school/family and so put what you're doing (or any suggestions/ideas you have!) here, so we can all benefit.

So one of my teachers decided we were going to give our "Secret Stone" one present each day for the 12 days before winter break.  My Secret Stone has 11 letters in her name, so i thought i'd paint her one wooden letter for each day and make something that started with that letter. And then for the 12th day i think i'm going to make her a pillow.

So far I've made "V is for Vase", which is a painted record bowl and 4 duct tape roses.

So here's the problem: Her name is Vickie Hwang and i still need to think of something cool to make for the second "i", the "a" and the "g". Any suggestions?

125  Re: Best Guy Friend: Birthday/Christmas? in Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage by Haylie on: November 27, 2005 10:42:27 AM
ah ha! i found a picture of kinda what i'm saying:

(many thanks to Yoshimi whose bowl this is!)

See how in the bottom left that one is squished together? The whole bowl is a less decorative effect and if you did less folds, it'd be even less decorative...

126  Embroidered Bed Bugs Pillowcase in Needlework: Completed Projects by Haylie on: November 26, 2005 07:38:33 PM
Thanks to the THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To! (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=47986.0) thread, I decided to embroider my boyfriend a pillowcase for christmas.  We talk online just about every night and something we always say is "Goodnightynight" then I say "Dont let the bed bugs bite" So...

And BedBug goes on vacation to Florida...

(embroidery on the beach...it doesnt get much better  Cheesy)

This is only my second embroidery project (this is my first: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=53061.0 ), so I'm rather pleased with how it turned out.    Grin

I split-stitched (I think that's what it's called) the "goodnightynight", "bed bugs" and "*xoxo*" and stem-stitched "Dont let the" and "bite"

So now here's the question: do i add more bed bugs? (I wish i had a better picture of the one i did, i think it's cute  Smiley) I was thinking maybe two smaller ones under "goodnightynight"...or maybe one on top of "dont let the bed bugs"?

Here, i'll fix it for you..craftster html is a little different.

This is my first post on craftster since lurking for several months. I made my kids up as the nightmare before xmas, Jack, Sally, and Zero.
Here are some pics on the carved pumpkins also following the same motif
