371  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Scrappy Recycled Quilt! on: July 23, 2007 04:10:22 PM
Thanks for all the lovely compliments, guys!  It's very satisfying to get some feedback on a project you've put endless hours into.

Bananabanana, I don't know how to reply to you directly, but hopefull you will check back in this post!  I quilted this by machine in the ditch, only vertically and between strips.  I used a poly batting since that's what I had around, but in retrospect I wished I had used a low-loft cotton, as the backing bunched a bit.  I may (or may not) go back and do some more quilting on this one - it always looks better - but overall I'm satisfied with it as is.

"Quilt as desired" is always a challenge for me, too!  I usually think fancy but end up going for simple in-the-ditch quilting, anyway.

Gorgeous!  Your questionable workmanship satisfies me greatly.
373  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Scrappy Recycled Quilt! on: July 22, 2007 07:49:25 AM
This is my first post to Craftster, although I've been quilting for many years.   I just thought I'd branch out, you know... more opportunities to screw up using html.

This quilt is based on a quilt I loved called "Plaids & Stripes", by Roberta Horton.  The majority of the fabrics in the top have been salvaged from men's cotton shirts which were damaged or stained.  Hooray, recycling!  The top is both hand- and machine-pieced, and the quilting is done by machine.

I'm really happy with this project.  I love the scrappy, sort of cottage-y look of it, even though I don't necessarily go in for a lot of rustic or country-looking things, and I also love that is mostly made of fabrics which were fated for the landfill.

Craftster is taking things slowly and getting to know me as a friend first, so instead of photos, I give you these STUNNING LINKS!

Any ideas for a name for this one?  Titles for all of my quilts usually come pretty easily, but I can't think of one for this guy.
