1  felt applique fun!! (img heavy) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by pas_non on: October 23, 2005 05:58:27 PM
for the past week i've been going crazy sewing, especially felt applique!
here is what i have been up to lately Smiley

felt bag for a friend's birthday. i still have to sew on the straps. Smiley i made a pocket inside and on the back. the back pocket is bigger than the inside so you can't see the inside pocket's stitching Smiley sorry, i feel really clever for that one hahaha

a little bag for my sister, who is obsessed with giraffes!

some felt fruit. no purpose. maybe i'll applique them to something hehe

ipod cosy for my roommate!!

2  ugly old huge cardigan to.. new shrug! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by pas_non on: October 23, 2005 05:52:00 PM
ok; so it was a vintage cardigan, very huge and unflattering. but i got a new <3 delia's catalog in the mail the other day and there were so many cute shrugs in there i had to try one. so i cut up the cardigan, re-sewed the 'piping' so that it curves on the bottom, and put on some cute little applique's. i ran out of thread literally 1/8" short of completing this HAHAHAH. has that ever happened to anyone?? i still have to tidy it up a little bit, the front piping needs to be mended where i cut it by accident, before i decided what i was going to do.

anyway, here are some pics. i didn't use a tutorial or pattern, just kind of trial and error. i was excited to use one of my vintage buttons. i have so many awesome buttons, too bad it takes so long to make the clothes to put them on! Smiley

a close-up of the applique. i know the little bird is going to fray but... thats ok. Smiley

3  a new life... for grandma's polyester pants! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by pas_non on: October 11, 2005 01:32:12 PM
i cant remember if i posted this one or not. if i have, i am sorry. but i have finished it now. Smiley well except for the hem and ironing.

it was originally a pair of ludicrous sixties polyester grandma pants, but in this amazing shade of electric blue (the pic isnt the best) so i did a little messing around and used the knees down and made it into a skirt, and saved the top for a pair of shorts, which i have packed in a box somewhere. anyway, the bobbin was in there wrong so the seam at the waist is all loose and wobbly but i really like how it looks! i am going over it again with more black thread so it looks like i did it on purpose.
then one night i put the applique on. then today i used some of these lovely vintage curtain pleats and gave it a bit of a slip and now i am in love. too bad it is a size 26 hahahaha. :\

its nothing much, but i am still learning Smiley
i want more polyester pants! lol.

4  skirt made w/ vintage fabrics in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by pas_non on: October 04, 2005 12:00:33 PM
i didnt know where to post this..
i am working on a skirt.
it's some vintage fifties fabric, in a very subdued darkish color, very this-season, and i had this lovely sheer creme curtain with layers of pleats, oh it is just unbelievable, absolutely stunning, and i am using a few of the pleats for a slip under the skirt. i need to find some similar fabric for the rest of the slip and then i will finish the skirt.
i think it will fit me, too.
i am excited. also there will be small white buttons.
i will post a pic when i am done. i know it is just an unfair tease to write about it like this, but really i am just excited. Smiley

now i dont want to count my egg before it is hatched, but here are a few pictures. i am by no means a seamstress. but i cant wait to finish it <3

the stitch down the centre is from the pleats, i havent made the slip yet but just wanted to see what it would look like, what length to make it.

close up of the fabric. it's so yummy. it looks textured but it's flat.

hehe i used some hideous green thread to baste the hem.. again just to see what it will look like (i'm lame)

there will be 2 small white buttons here i think.

ok that's all. when i am finished i will post to finished projects, i just wanted to vent my excitement for now  Cheesy

5  lil stuffed crab :) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by pas_non on: September 19, 2005 12:45:36 PM
hi. this is my first creation.
in the future, i will try to remember that the claws are bigger Smiley
it was fun to sew the body inside out with the legs in, and then flip the whole thing out.. i dont know why, it was just so neat how it kind of fell together so fast - crab stuffies recommended to all! Smiley

7  Re: hair advice please in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by pas_non on: September 06, 2005 02:31:50 PM
you know what, i bet you would look utterly cute in a short indie girl haircut, whatever that means. here, this girl jenny from the band wolfie has the hair i am kind of talking about:

then again this may be too short for you and if you have very fine hair it might not work.. but i think it'd look cute! Smiley

8  twee butterfly skirt :) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by pas_non on: September 04, 2005 05:04:41 PM
so i found this ultra twee eighties cotton fabric in a very marc jacobs-ish teal with butterflies... i just had to do something fun with it! right now i am obsessed with pleats on the bottom of skirts, i dont know why. i sewed a sash at the waist that ties in the back, with some big, bright vintage buttons! oh god i love vintage buttons! especially crazy, big ones!

well here's a photo, ooh lala, twee in high heels! (sorry it's hard to model for the timer Wink )

9  1st post - sweet felt applique'd bags!! <3 in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by pas_non on: September 04, 2005 04:06:38 PM
this is my first post to craftster.. what a fun community!!
i didn't use any pattern for these bags, just kind of sewed them up however Wink but i was anxious to get to my favorite part, the applique! felt is best for applique because it is does not fray or unravel, so you don't need to tuck the seam under. i used a vintage wool felt for the applique. the navy bag is felt, and a wonderful vintage brushed cotton for the light blue bag.

whew, machine applique using a normal sewing machine (and not embroidery machine) is tough work! but i am very happy with the way they turned out. perhaps i will try hand stitching next time. i just hate picking my fingers with the needle! :\

the light blue one is a little dirty. i took er on a wild night out Smiley
