11  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Glasses Stencil + Iron On Letters= Easy Christmas Present on: December 04, 2005 12:50:26 PM
My 8 year old brother hates homework. And just recently got glasses, that he only needs to wear when doing it. When he puts them on, he knows he's in homework mode. So the new joke is, whenever i see him, i ask, "having you been doing your homework?" then i screw up my face stupidly and say, "HOMEWORK, NARFFFFFF" while pushing up my invisible fake glasses. He thinks its hysterical.

I picked up this shirt at the thrift store for $1.50, used iron on lettering, and used a glasses stencil I got off of Google Images- I used contact paper to make the stencil (oh so easy).

Crafternoon delight
Unless your moniker is Martha or you're a MacGyver at handmade gifts, a holiday present constructed by your own two mitts could turn out just plain tacky. But a treat purchased at Depart-ment--the hawkfest organized by an army of local arts 'n' kitsch-inclined craftsters--could please the hippest of recipients on your gift list. More than 100 vendors sell handmade jewelry, clothing, stationary and more. Cash and checks only.

13  Illinois / Illinois: North / Bleeding Heart Bakery (in Ukranian Village) on: November 28, 2005 09:39:07 AM
Has anyone been to this bakery yet? http://www.thebleedingheartbakery.com/ Its at 2018 W. Chicago Ave. (about 2 blocks from Damen & Chicago). It is probably the best decorated store i have EVER been in. Hot pink walls, decoupaged modern circles made from origami paper all over the walls, a vintage stove, about 3 50's formica tables....ohhhhh its like my dream store....

Foodwise, they have a lot of vegan options. I'm not vegan, but I thought it was nice for those of you who are!
14  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tattoo Bag (for me) & Christmas gift bag- Simplicity 4668 on: November 26, 2005 10:27:23 AM
I LOVE Simplicity 4668- I've made about 5 bags from this pattern already- I love its hugeness. I made this first bag from the ever popular Alexander Henry tattoo fabric (I got mine from reprodepot.com). One of my coworkers liked it so much she asked me to make her one:

This bag is for my boyfriend's sister. It's made out of corduroy, which I HATE HATE HATE working with. But its done, thats all that matters. I just never want to see it again....

And there is a vintage pin (eBay) coming in the mail that I thought would fit the bag perfectly

*Phew*. Sorry for all the pictures. I lined both bags with heavy black canvas, so I got to avoid interfacing! I would recommend it for all bag making.
15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Birdy Scarf (sewn, not knitted) on: November 26, 2005 10:04:06 AM
Inspired by the latest issue of Readymade, I made this scarf out of two sweaters I never wear for my boyfriend's stepsister. It was a pain to sew, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. The birds are charms from http://www.sacredkitschstudio.com/ (an awesome site with some really cool charms) and the surrounding material is felt. I would definitely do this again, as I can't knit, but love scarves!

Its pretty long....

16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Amazingly Huge Simplicity 4668 on: November 06, 2005 03:58:46 PM
I love this pattern! It was pretty easy- I haven't sewn from a pattern in years, and i had no trouble with this one. The dimensions are pretty huge as well, which i appreciate in a bag (i carry around a lot of stuff).

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to put on the outside? It looks a little plain to me...

17  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Pirate-y Velvet Blazer on: October 30, 2005 04:37:37 PM
I made this a while back, before the blazer explosion! It was thrifted, and cost me about $5.00. I jazzed up the fake pockets with a split stitch.
18  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Fitzpatterns Hoodie with Raglan Sleeve on: October 26, 2005 09:53:08 AM

Has anyone purchased and used this pattern? I'd like to know if it is easy or hard, and what you did to print the pattern out!
19  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Your Chicken Soup Recipe on: October 25, 2005 08:11:22 AM
How do you all make chicken soup? I don't have a good solid recipe, and the weather is cold and dark and damp...help me out!
20  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Oilcloth Tablecloth on: October 24, 2005 09:34:29 AM
Can anyone recommend a good online site to purchase an oilcloth tablecloth?  Or would it be cheaper to order some oilcloth and make my own tablecloth?
