61  Making Stuff & Doing Things - Book Review in Discussion and Questions by modpodge on: September 03, 2005 07:52:49 PM
I just picked up this book, and though some of the projects are a little hard to pull off (how to build a small shack), other ones are completely doable. There are tutorials on making your own wine (very tempting, I'll probably try), making an A-line skirt, and growing sprouts in your kitchen. It also has a lot of eco-friendly projects and how-to's, like making a compost pile and using gray water for your toilet. It reads like a zine and has lots of hand-drawn pictures.

62  The Mix Tape Project in Stenciling: Completed Projects by modpodge on: September 03, 2005 07:34:26 PM
I live in Chicago, and read an article about two people who are going around the city, stencilling mix tape images in strange and hidden spots and hiding mix tapes under them. I actually found one, and here is the stencil that was included with the tape. Here's a link to the website- http://www.illcutyou.com/tapes. Start a mixtape project where you live!!!!

63  50's style cat machine stitching in Vintage Craft Projects by modpodge on: September 03, 2005 07:28:24 PM
I have a BUNCH of housekeeping and craft magazines from the 50's. i went on an Ebay binge and amassed them all- I should be posting lots of them soon!  Here's a couple pages I loved. They would be great for stencilling and stitching.

64  Re: Liddle Kiddles in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions by modpodge on: September 03, 2005 07:58:43 AM
There are a lot of them on Ebay...but I almost can't bring myself to pay over $15 for something so tiny. I mean, they have no practical use but to hold them in my hands and say over and over, THESE ARE SO FREAKING CUTE. THESE ARE SOOO CUTE! hahaha...i spent way too much time at work yesterday looking at kiddles! Here's a picture I took of my friend's doll. Now if i was going to use one for a photo project, it would definitely be worth purchasing one off Ebay.

65  Liddle Kiddles in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions by modpodge on: September 02, 2005 07:55:19 AM
I had never seen one of these until just yesterday. My friend pulled one out of a box of her favorite mementos. and HOLY CRAP THESE THINGS ARE CUTE!! She had a little one with a bunny outfit and purple hair. They have shifty eyes which give them an endearing, but totally creepy look. They are so tiny, and I think they would look great in a photo project. Like Kiddle, posed against a brick wall, Kiddle standing on the pavement...URBAN KIDDLE!! Does anyone have one of these dolls?!

66  Camera Embroidery on Thrifted V-Neck Sweater in Needlework: Completed Projects by modpodge on: August 28, 2005 10:52:50 AM
I've had this sweater for a while, it's my favorite winter sweater. I got the idea for the camera from an old Readymade, which suggested embroidering this design (and some others, including a cassette tape, boombox, record player) on pillows. Every time I wear it, someone inevitably comments on it. Most times though, they are asking, "what IS that?!" I had just started embroidering, so the design is a little smushed, and the stitches are big and loopy!

68  Thrift Store Picture Revamp (not the swap!) BIG PICS - sorry! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by modpodge on: August 17, 2005 08:12:14 PM
Inspired by the great revamps for all rounds of the thrift store picture revamp swaps, i did one of my own. I liked this little wood plaque thing, but it was a little too 60's for my bright red 50's kitchen. I used paints, modpodge, and a page from a vintage cookbook.

70  Anyone else tried fabric pens?! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by modpodge on: August 13, 2005 02:44:39 PM
Just wanted to show off a little fabric pen magic. I outlined the existing pattern with black pen, but the possibilities are endless if you have a steady hand a design in mind.
These things were used in a project on the boards a while ago, and I'm so happy i bought them- they are permanent, washable, and require no irons or heat setting.
