2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Owl foot necklace on: February 16, 2010 01:26:32 AM
sounds neat! perhaps post a picture or two of aforementioned owl talons so we can gauge possible attachment methods? Cheesy
keen to see what everyone can come up with!

as for cleaning, I would personally use some sort of cleaning alcohol but that might be obvious hahah

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / pendant.. "holders"? on: February 16, 2010 12:26:54 AM
hello craftster,

I want to back my to-be pendants with a piece of metal as shown in the photo below:

I went to a bead store and asked if they supply them and she suggested going to a lampwork shop. what do you think?

have also tried an extensive search online but I think my main problem lies in the fact that I don't actually know what these are called!

any suggestions/comments/links to online stores that sell these and ship to australia?

thank you so much for your time!

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: resin mold altering/modification help? on: January 04, 2010 02:58:03 PM
I think what I would do is to take a blister packet that's the size you want and use clay to get the size and shape you need--so fill all the little blister areas with clay, stick it in the freezer a little while, then pop out the clay pieces and bake them until they're hard. Then get a two-part silicone mold to pour over the clay pieces and make your own mold that way.

Much easier and better to make your own than trying to modify another one.
oh wow, thank you both for your suggestions! I'm going to do that today.

I have no experience with resin mold making but I'm quite interested in what the results would end up like!
I'd be concerned that the liquid resin would mix with the unbaked clay or the resin would have residual traces of the clay in it and hence become murky/cloudy. just my 5c!

hello crafty masters and mistresses,

I'm trying to get a flat, round shaped resin mold similar to that of paracetamol blister packs

but they're obviously not built to be used as resin molds (tried it once, it wasn't very clean-cut)

the closest I can find is this.

so I was thinking maybe it would be possible to make the bottom half of the cavities.. void? perhaps use something to fill the bottom to ensure only the top half of the mold is usable?

that was really unclear but I hope someone out there understands what I mean :l

thanks for reading,
