2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / socks! on: July 15, 2007 08:36:38 PM
i have always loved the idea of knitting socks and have been buying sock yarn for years, but i didn't get around to actually knitting any until this summer. here are my first socks!

i used lion brand magic stripes and the pattern right inside the label. i'm giving them to my mom for her birthday next week. i figure people with july birthdays have a real shortage of things like wool socks among their birthday presents.

here's the real question though, what do i do with what's left of the yarn? it's practically enough for a third sock! real useful...

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Monkey Finger Puppets! on: December 20, 2006 05:06:58 PM
i made these for a couple friends for christmas.

i used some knitpicks shadow double-stranded in oregon coast and redwood forest. yay stashbusting!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / topless hat? on: December 15, 2006 01:48:44 PM
i have a friend who wears his hair all spikey-like, preventing him from wearing hats, but his ears always get cold. we were joking the other night that he needs a topless hat so that he could wear it without messing up his hair. i want to make him the bottom half of an earflap hat for christmas as a surprise, but i can't figure out how to keep it from sliding down his head. it's kind of a joke so it's not a huge deal if it doesn't work, but it would be so cool if it did. any ideas?
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / knitscene's tangelo - minus all the little flowery things on: September 30, 2006 09:10:12 AM
this baby was a super-fast knit. it took me maybe two weeks all together, while working on a few other things. i made it out of an unraveled 10ft+ long scarf from delia's. here it is!

sorry the picture's blurry, but none of the detailing shows up in the black anyway. here's a pic of the cuff ribbing so you can try to see it anyway.

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / first lace project ever! on: September 11, 2006 06:41:10 PM
i've been wanting to try lace for quite a while now and was planning on starting with something nice and small like branching out...but then i scored tickets to the opening gala for the katherine hepburn memorial center and needed a cheap way to turn a black cocktail dress into a black-tie gown. i used knitpicks shadow (just under 2 hanks) in lost lake and this pattern:

the concrete deadline and added pressure of this having to actually look good made this a less than an enjoyable knit, but i can tell that more leisurely lace knitting will be in my near future.

here it is blocking:

the detail of the point:

and the whole ensemble put together, ie the shawl with my plain black dress Wink :

thanks for looking!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / it used to be an ugly sweater... on: July 30, 2006 06:22:08 PM
the colors look okay now. they even look okay together. but let me tell you, the two of these colors in stripes, with some kelly green thrown in just for fun, was awful. so i took it apart and carried around the pretty (separated!) colors for a long time. then my girlfriend got a brand spankin new nintendo ds that she dropped on the floor twice in one night. enter the DS cozy!

it's very squishy with the two yarns together, so it should be up to...a lot.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / pirate scarf on: July 13, 2006 04:35:28 PM
i made this for my sister's bday next month (yay for being done early!). her hs mascot is the pirates, so she is living it up with all the pirate popularity right now. i made the scarf in caron perfect match in her school colors from this pattern:

here it is all stripey and normal:

and here are the skulls!

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Fad-Classic! on: July 05, 2006 04:34:25 PM
i made it with caron simply soft brites! since i wasn't really sure that sweater vests are a look that i can pull off. i'm still not sure... but i like it anyway!

here it is:

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / pants from a t-shirt! on: June 28, 2006 06:03:39 PM
this is my first recontruction. or at least the first one that has worked out. for the most part i used this tutorial:
http://community.livejournal.com/t_shirt_surgery/3597625.html

here they are!

i did add a drawstring though instead of dealing with trying to make them stay up on their own.

what do you think?
