21  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Re: skull shirt with a side of AWESOME. on: November 21, 2005 12:09:04 PM
the bleach didn't have an effect on the stencil at all, other than to erase the purple marker that i had used to trace. also, it's glued onto pretty heavy art paper.

to keep the bleach from spreading, i put little rolled tape strips under all the parts that wouldn't lay flat. also, the spray bottle created a pretty fine mist... you don't have to use a lot. just get it to where it looks like kind of a dew? on top of the fabric. you definitely don't need to get it soaking wet. haha sorry if that's totally confusing.

yeah, just straight bleach poured into an old spray bottle. i only had to let it sit for a few minutes... you have to watch out, though; i've let it eat holes through things before.

i started with a blank target t-shirt (they're so super nice & soft), traced the basic outline of the skull shape from my computer screen, spray glued the paper to some heavy-ish art paper stuff, x-actoed it out, & sprayed straight bleach over it. i'm still in the process of beading... you can't really see them in the picture, but there are tiny silver/clear seed beads scattered throughout the bleached areas.

neato! i like the drippy/leaked parts... it looks intentional to me.
26  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / HELP! zipper + sweatshirt = weird rippling... on: October 18, 2005 07:22:48 PM
i'm trying to make a hoodie out of an old sweatshirt. i cut a straight line up the front, & sewed in a zipper. the problem is, when it's zipped up, the zipper area has these really ugly bulges that stick out from my gut! yargh! i have a feeling it has something to do with the sweatshirt fabric stretching as i sew the zipper on, but i'm not really sure what to do about this.
27  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: monster shoe on: October 16, 2005 10:42:58 AM
hi, yeah, of course... i plan on doing another pair with more professional supplies as soon as i get the money. basically you apply the glue to the shoe form as you go, & kind of stretch the faux fur to fit.

redheads! i just thought i'd put in my two cents about the red-dye-containing shampoos/conditioners... i had red hair about two years ago, & the redhead shampoo that i got from my hairdresser gave me an AWFUL rash on my neck & back (where the suds rinsed down) from using it once. it's probably a good idea to test it in an inconspicuous spot first if you have sensitive skin.

naked_ninja that's awesome! hahaha so cute.

hey, wow, thanks again for all the positive feedback! unfortunately, i can't wear the shoes 'cause of the way the fur is wrapped around the upper... it made them about a size & a half too small. as soon as i can get my hands on some more cheapo heels & some rubber or cork, i'm definitely going to try another pair. i have this awesome neon "lisa frank" style leopard fur that i want to use...  Tongue
