11  COOKING / Dessert / Re: No-Bake recipes - Please share. on: December 01, 2010 12:13:13 AM
Rice crispy squares! I usually follow the recipe on the box.

Which I have found is:
6 C cereal
10 oz marshmallows
3 Tbsp butter
(I like to add 1 Tbsp Vanilla too)

Melt the butter, stir in marshmellows. Remove from heat when everything's gooey and stir in the cereal. Flatten mixture into a rectangular pan and let cool. Cut it when it's cooled. Instant delicious.

I've been doing work on No Pants are Tied to my heart. It's my project to work on while I'm laid off so I don't go crazy. Some folks might remember Martin from a little while ago. Here's some more of the cast. Click on the images to see them larger on my deviantart account.

It's supposed to be a teen melodramatic comedy of errors... with fairies. The main character, Frankie is an illegal fairy who must earn his legal fairy wings by night as Feydra while trying to keep the horrible melodrama of his teenaged life in check by day.

Here's a rotation of Frankie:

Here's the main cast:

Left to right they are:
Gabe Dahling: cap'n of the hockey team, best friends with Aaron. He's a bit of an antagonist.
Renée Gill: tries so hard to fit in. Aaron's ex-girlfriend. She's a bit of an antagonist.
Aaron Neihart: the main love interest. He dresses like a rockstar so clearly he's dreamy.
Fairy Princess Feydra: Frankie's superhero alter ego. She gets involved with Aaron.
Frankie Mackenzie: protagonist. A bit of a nerd he wants to get into neuroscience to fix his mum's crazy.
Liz Diaz: dark fashionista extraordinaire. Frankie's best friend.
Martin Doxtator: full disclosure no matter the cost. He is sometimes an antagonist.

Here's a mixedy past lineup.

and a present day lineup of the same characters:

In these we have:
Jack Huband: Frankie's Dad: in the first he's about 18. In the second he's a bit vegetative.
Wendy Mackenzie-Huband: Frankies Mum. In the first she's about 16 ish. She started losing it when Jack was hospitalized.
Frankie: At about 7. I think he and Aaron are too old for this lineup.
Aaron: at about 7. I love his little chubbiness ;]
Babette Huband: Jack's Little sister, Wendy's best friend, Frankie's Aunt and legal guardian (and english teacher). She's about the same age as Wendy. Found herself saddled with the responsibility of rearing her young nephew when her brother mysteriously became a vegetable.

And some fairies:

The repeated characters are for size comparison.

Duly noted. The phrasing of your critique could be less abrasive, but you have a good point. I flipped him earlier today and not only are his shoulders ridiculous but they're also lopsided. It's what I get for drawing at 3 am and thinking it'll be amazing.

I'm sorry! I had no intention of being abrasive about it. (I'm one of those people who just says whatever I think, and although I don't think I seem as harsh in person, I have been told I'm about as smooth as 40 grit sandpaper, so I guess I should probably work on that!) Honestly, though, I don't think there's anything wrong with your artistry at all- I just felt like he looked older than you said he was..

Also, I love the new hair!

No worries. I like the input. And you do have a good point about it.

Yeah. It's really easy to let him become the most interesting character because of that.

I like 2 and 4.  And the only suggestion I can think of is a combination of 2 and the last.  Where he has the long pieces in front but nothing else.  Not that 2 and 4 aren't marvelous!  I just thought that hairstyle was missing from the lineup.   Wink  Love him, very cute.

My drawing friend suggested this earlier today so updated hair is on its way.

Okay, for one thing, I think he's too beefy for a teenager. I can't wrap my head around him being only 16-17.. He looks like he's in his mid-late 20's because of those shoulders!

As for hair, I like 4, but I feel like that looks a lot older than a teenager, too.. I really like 2 because it's unique and weird and versatile.

Heh. No backup needed ;] I really just want to know which people like best.

UPDATE:
A friend of mine suggested combining the shape of 4 with the style of 2 and taking the coffee away from him. So I present the mellower, slightly more interesting face of Martin.

So I'm working on character designs for an animated piece I plan on doing. This character is Martin Doxtator. He's 16-17 throughout the story's arc. He's obviously a high school student and gothy mall rat. He plays a very Puck-like role in the plot and may or may not be a fairy-creature. I haven't decided entirely whether or not it's necessary for him to be. I'm leaning towards no at this point. If he were he'd be a faun (but we'd call him a young buck to not hurt his feelings).

Anyhow, my question to you is: which hair do you like better for him? His hair has changed drastically over the last few drafts and I spent last night drawing many different hairstyles for him. These are the four I like the most right now, but I'd love additional suggestions too.
