1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Question about painting purses???? on: November 09, 2008 09:00:15 PM
I was looking at Vivien Cheng's Etsy page: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5770862

and it made me want to paint on my own bags. What kind of paint would be good to use on leather bags like these??

Also she talks about having to put several layers of paint on her bags. Is there a certain technique to painting handbags??
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Ninja Turtle costume alteration HELP!!! on: October 24, 2008 10:38:11 AM
I know all my craftsters out there have brilliant minds. So, I was wondering if you could lend me your magnificent brains for this project.

So here's what's up. I have this boy's Ninja turtle costume. Size 7-8. Standard 100% polyester spandexy looking basic halloween costume:

The legs fit. The top fits. But not together aka the torso is too short and when the costume is put on my body in full, it gives a major wedgie. Not cute.

So, I was thinking of lengthening the costume by adding the old school monogram belt (circled in blue) that the turtles wore:

But problem is I don't know how. Solutions?

Keep in mind that I am very limited in resources so anything that has to do with overlock machines I can't really do. But I do live near a hobby lobby! Thanks for the help!!!

It can be ideas for home-made costumes, or store bought ones.

That was my cousin in his costume from last year, on the right, the little football player

And last year's winner is on the left. He also won the costume the year before....

Thanks for your help!!
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Cute cord bracelet ideas??? on: September 16, 2006 09:40:18 AM
I'm an officer for a club at my school called SWAAT (Students working together against AIDS), and we're trying to raise money by selling bracelets that promote AIDS awareness. So, I was thinking somewhere along the style of this bracelet:

But what should I put instead of the skulls? And does anyone know where I can find tutorials for making this?

And if anyone else has different bracelet ideas I'll be more than happy to accept them!

Thanks!
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Cute and Easy Knotted Bag! on: June 30, 2006 11:40:22 AM
Here's a really simple, yet absolutely adorable bag that my mom found in a magazine. Unfortunately she couldn't remember the name of it, but here goes!

The instructions recommend to use a 32-inch square scarf or 45-inch square tablecloth, but since I couldn't find any, I just got a 45-inch square piece of fabric and hemmed the edges so they wouldn't fray.

Examples from the magazine

There is my finished product!

And it's very spacious, I might add. It could definitely fit more than 5 regular sized magazines in it.
7  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / I dream of Jeannie evil twin sister costume on: March 25, 2006 09:48:20 AM
Spirit week at my school is in two weeks and the theme for our class this year is "I Dream of Juniors", and I'm going to dress up as Jeannie's evil twin sister. But, I can't find any store that sells her costume, so I've decided to make it. Would anyone know if there's a pattern or something out there? Or if someone has made that costume already? I would love some help!

Like... what should I use for the skirt? And where should I get those green tights/leggings that she wears underneath the skirt? I'm sure I'll have no problem making the headpiece, I'll just buy some green fabric and gold tassles.

Thanks!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / I DREAM OF JUNIORS: Spirit week costumes on: March 01, 2006 04:04:39 PM
This year, my theme for spirit week got chosen. And for the juniors it is "I DREAM OF JUNIORS", which covers all the oldies shows on Nick at Night and TV Land, including "I dream of Genie"

So, I need help with ideas for what to dress up as! It's either going to be me and my group of girls dressing up together, OR I'm just going to dress up myself.

I was thinking my friends and I could dress up as the "Happy Days" crew, but that's so... plain.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!! (Sprit week is the week of April 7th)
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Cheerleading Squad Thank you stuff?? on: December 07, 2005 06:22:34 PM
This cheerleading squad has let me cheer with them since my school's closed because of Hurricane Katrina.

And I wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas for cheer squad thank you gifts?

I would gladly appreciate it!! Thank you!
10  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Coordinating Costumes?? on: October 28, 2005 06:54:27 PM
I know this is sort of last minute, but I would LOVE IT if I could get some help for my problem.

So, here goes: On Monday we get to dress up at school and my friend and I need some ideas. We can't really go out and buy stuff because since hurricane Katrina hit, well, things are pretty crowded, they close early, and we don't really have any money.

So, if anyone has any cute ideas for matching costumes that can be made like really easily or on a super low budget we'd really appreciate it.

Thanks again!
