1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Cirque craft theme on: July 11, 2007 01:32:34 PM
I'm planning an event with a "Cirque" theme; it's a fundraiser for a youth organization.  Each year we try to include a simple art project on the tables that the kids in the agency have done, just to connect the guests a little to our mission.  Last year the event was a masquerade theme so we had the kids decorate masks with glitter and paint.  This year I'm kind of stuck.  The theme is Cirque...so it's not quite circus-y but close.  Any ideas?  It has to be cheap and easy.  Thanks!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Disco-themed "chart" thingy on: October 20, 2006 10:31:54 AM
I work for a nonprofit organization that throws an annual auction with a musical theme each year.  This year the theme is "Saturday Night Fever".  We're brainstorming ways to use the disco theme in a barometer of sorts, where we can chart the progress of how much has been donated.  For instance, last year the theme was "Wicked" and the chart was a broom against a piece of cardboard that we would simply mark $$ amounts and paint on the broom once we reached them.  Any ideas?  Sorry if this sounds confusing.

The ideas we have so far that we're not super stoked on:

-a disco ball where we paint towards the top to fulfill our goal
-platform shoes that keep getting bigger
-um, yeah, that's all we have.

It needs to be very simple and just something tangible in order to show the board our procurement progress.  Let me know if you have any ideas!

Thanks.   Smiley
3  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / record label coasters on: August 22, 2006 12:46:49 PM
anybody have a good idea of how to make these record label coasters?

they seem pretty simple...just glue some cork board type stuff to the bottom?  does vinyl cut easily?

most will live in the residence halls, but there will be some who will probably commute to class from nearby.

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / small gift idea on: August 21, 2006 01:36:08 PM
I have to make about 18 small gifts for a small group of new college freshmen.  I can't spend too much money and I wanted to do something a little bit unique but still on the cheap side.  Perhaps something they can use their first year of college?  I was thinking record bowls but does anyone else have other ideas?

Thanks so much!
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Kool-Aid Man Costume on: February 03, 2006 11:46:34 AM
This isn't really related so much to a gift, but I didn't know where to post and I'm starting to get desperate.  I'm helping to plan a retreat at my college, and my committee's job is to put together a big skit show for all those going on the retreat.  One of our skits calls for someone to be Kool-Aid Man...any ideas on how to create that costume?  We have limited time and funds but we want the costume to look as good as possible.  I'd love some advice, thanks!

here's a link to a picture if you forgot who he is!

something simple would be great, but i'm willing to spend a good amount of time if it'll save me some money.   Wink
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / 20 small inexpensive gifts on: August 31, 2005 11:42:01 AM
In a few weeks I'm going to be helping out with a college orientation for a bunch of incoming new students.  Each of the leaders will have a group of about 20 students to meet with, and at the end of the week we are supposed to give them little gifts.  Basically I need to spend about a dollar (or less) on each gift, but I want them to be a little bit unique and fun, so I thought making something would be neat.  Any ideas?

IKEA has placemats for 50 cents, I was thinking of doing something with those (like picture frames or something), but I'd love some input.  Thanks!
