11  A dingo ate my baby or a new mattress for a doll bed in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Stifflersmom on: September 15, 2011 05:47:27 PM
I found this doll crib in the rafters at madre's. My puppitos needed a place to chill while visiting the studio, so I whipped up a new mattress so they can veg while mom cuts big fabric into little fabric and re-sews it into big fabric.

I measured the bed and cut out the fabric with an extra half-inch to allow for seams. I quilted the top with bamboo batting and muslin. The body is standard cushion foam cut to size and wrapped in more batting.

I'm thinking of giving the crib a fresh coat of paint, but I hate to cover the vintage waterslide decals.

12  Halloween/Wizard of Oz Wall Hanging in Quilting: Completed Projects by Stifflersmom on: September 15, 2011 05:24:47 PM
This is my version of a pattern I picked up this summer.
I used no-sew applique stuff and quilted a spiderweb pattern over the top with a silver thread.

Here's a closer shot just before binding.

13  Re: Wicked Circus Altered Tin Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Stifflersmom on: April 06, 2011 10:01:34 AM
Without further ado.... May I present.....
Madam Black's Wicked Circus "Dance of the Nightmares" by the traveling exhibition Danse Macabre
crafted by cackle......

Inside it says "The wind whispers wicked, wicked..."

It's absolutely exquisite and provided a pleasing spine-tingling chill. The skelly on the left is articulated and dances when the tin is jiggled. It's amazingly tiny!

If you have better photos, please post them, cackle. My camera hasn't been the same since it fell into the queso dip last weekend....

I'm not a cheat, I sent a tin (and a cheese box).

Just for that I'm going to make you all wait in anticipation for photos of the Wicked Awesome tin I received from cackle.
So there.

Cheesy be back on my lunch break.

15  Re: Mini Art Quilt Swap 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Stifflersmom on: April 05, 2011 09:57:39 AM
I love how an 'accident' forces you to go beyond what you were planning. Not at the time, of course.... Cheesy

Here's a pic of the quilt I sent to pioneer9. The words from her questionairre that stuck with me were blue, purple, at night, and trees. This is the first art quilt I've attempted and the very first raw edge applique. I'm terrible with a camera, the light box seems to have washed it out a bit and made the edges look wonky.  Embarrassed

Thanks for swapping with me, pioneer9. Your Frida is hanging in my studio and is very inspiring.

What a fun interpretation!

I received this weekend, too! The lovely pioneer9 sent me Frida -

The piecing is spot-on and a fabulous quote!
I'm not so good with a camera - I'm sorry I didn't do it justice.

Thanks so much, I love it!!

17  Mug Rug in Quilting: Completed Projects by Stifflersmom on: February 08, 2011 10:15:09 AM
I made this mug rug for Rosy Posie in a recent swap.

Frontage:

The reverse side:

It's binded in the french style using a strip of 1" fabric, mostly due to a miscalculation with the rotary tools and a lack of extra material. Cheesy

19  Flour Sack towel into Apron in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Stifflersmom on: July 29, 2010 10:38:12 AM
This apron is a folded flour sack towel with rick rack, matching pockets & apron strings. It went together very quickly and was a fun way to use up some quilting scraps.

20  Purple Polka Dot tablecloth reworked into Apron in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Stifflersmom on: July 29, 2010 10:33:09 AM
I visited a fantastic quilt shop in Siren Wisconsin, and all the staff were wearing these fabulous aprons.
Had to try my hand at making one. I used the Lilly pattern from Busy Bee as a starting point, but ended up making modifications so that I could use this vintage tablecloth. It had a small tear, so it really needed to be repurposed.

Excuse the droopy bust - Madge the dress form is not as busty as I am.  Cheesy
