Hey all, I was thinking of buying hemp clothing for a trip to the beach, but all the stuff I have found is anywhere from $20 to $70. So instead, I would rather make some tops/bottoms myself, and was wondering if anyone else has ever done this? What type of hemp fabric did you use, where did you get it, what patterns? Any help or experience would be appreciated;p
Anyone here have a traveling wheel? I would love a wheel, but I only want one;p perferably one that can do anything I ask of it, and be easy to move and store. My hubby offered to weld a wheel for me, with a bike chain;p
So far the ones that I have seen are Ashfords' Joy, and Majacrafts' little gem. I am waiting for the Fiber Festival In Utah (Labor Day weekend) to see if there are any there, but would like some reviews on any traveling wheels, or any all-around-wheels. Thanks for reading;p
Hey all, Does anyone know how to dye wool roving that is mixed with silk? I tried a small chunk with koolaid, got some very nice color, but the silk got crunchy, so I had to comb out each individual section to use it. Anyone know how to NOT get crunchy silk? Maybe rinse with fabric softner or what not?
Okay, I need to write this some where, and this is a good place to start. Last night, about 1:30 a.m. I thought that I heard my car start up. Since it is a little obnoxious honda with a hole in the resonator/muffler, it has a very distictive sound. I looked out the window and didn't see it. So I walked out to the front room where my brother was playing a computer game, and out onto the balcony looking for my car. I didn't see it, so I had my brother look also, just incase I was losing it. He couldn't see it either. So I called my hubby (in NC) to tell him, and then called the police. Long story short, they found my car abandoned in downtown Salt Lake City (about 20 minutes away) missing the battery, seats, and parts off the engine.
The thing is, I had just went to Vegas, and found a great deal on scrap art glass, and had 80 lbs of it in my trunk, as well as about 16 cds, and my hubbys toolset. And a bunch of fortune cookies in the dash box. I have yet to see it, but I will be very upset if the glass isn't there;p! Stolen craft supplies! argghh! I'll write an update when I go pick-up my car tomorrow, but arggh!! I felt so violated that someone that I didn't know had taken off with my car, and was upset all day, just trying not to think about it. I really hope that glass is in there, because I never got a chance to look through it! argghh!
So my hubby has been taking welding courses at his community college. He needed to practice/was bored, so he went to the hobby shop on Camp Lejuene base, took some metal out of the scrap bin, and he came up with this super cool, heavy(20 lbs.) Piggy bank! He asked me to post this for him, and he really wants to know what ya'll think;p Enjoy!
As a blatant copy of Comfits post about the user names, I thought that I would start a "how'd ya pick that cool avatar?" thread.
So how 'bout we all " take a minute & share with all of the crafty folk how/why we selected our avatars??
I'll go first with my explanation. My brother started a writing forum: http://www.arcane-artistry.net/ which he designed everything by himself. I wanted to support his effort, so I decided to join. But since he is younger than me, I decided that I couldn't let him surpass me in the do-it-yourself-design quotient, I decided to design my own avatar.
I scoured the net searching for something that I liked. Finally deciding on 3 different pictures, I used paintshop to merge them together until they were what I wanted. So I got this and then about a week ago, I decided to change that and using photoshop and a pair of dragon wings from an Amy Brown postcard, I got what I currently have;p
Allright grrrlies and a few boyzzz;p Now is your turn! I can't wait to read about some of the awesome avatars on this board!
So I saw the tyvek baggie post, and decided to make one of my own. It sure was interesting learning how to do a first timer zipper;p I free handed the images from comics that I like. Hope yall enjoy!
and the other side
for any who are wondering, the text on the Calvin and Hobbs one says:
Calvin, "I am growing my fingernails long." 2"Then I'll file them into points, so I'll have claws just like you." Hobbs, "Mine are retractable." Calvin, "No retractable claws, No opposable toes, No prehensile tail, No compound eyes, No fangs, No wings.... SIGH"
My little sibling wanted a smiley face pillow from walmart, but I no likey walmart. So I bought some yellow yarn, and crocheted her one. She sleeps with it everynight;p The google eyes are glued on with e6000 and they haven't come off yet!
Hey all you crafty denizens! I am looking for some cheap (for me) can garner lots of mola type things to donate to my lil' sisters school. A school employ found out that she has cancer,(bone I think) and they are throwing a concert and auction to raise money for her. They sent home a note asking for donated items, like eat out gift certificates, movie GC, services, gift baskets, and crafts. Deadline is either end of January, or in March (wording is unclear)
So if anyone has ideas for crafts that are fairly inexpensive (less than $5.00 a piece), not so labor intensive, that people would be willing to bid higher $$$ for, please post! And most of the people in the area have 3-4 young (under 10) children.
Some ideas from me: Capri Sun bags felt monsters(?) wire jewelery
