1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Home made advent calendar on: February 28, 2009 04:16:43 PM
I made this for my children after a disappointing attempt to find customizable advent calendar. I didn't want to go with the cheap box of chocolate with the little tear open windows.  I saw some at a department store that was a box with little drawers or doors to open, but they didn't seem very sturdy and were barely big enough for two tic tacs, hardly worth the $30-$50 dollars they were charging.   The pyramid boxes found at the dollar store were my inspiration.  I filled them with finger puppets and candy(buttons, necklaces, suckers and mini chocolate bars) and hung them some dollar store garland.  Added stickers numbered 1-24 and let the count down begin.

2  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Mandi's Orange You Glad It's Reversible? Purse or The Citrus Punch Purse on: February 28, 2009 03:57:17 PM
I crocheted this purse for my friend and co-worker Mandi.  Se was going through my crochet and kitting books and fell in love with the "Orange you Glad" purse.  I told her I would give a shot but I had never done any color change other than stripes.  I finished the the first orange and decided the it needed a lining in order to be effective.  Then it occurred to me that I was essentially going to be crocheting another purse so why not make it reversible?  The decision to change the handle came when I found these  cool acrylic ones at Joann.  It turned out kind of bulky.  But Mandi loves it.

3  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / One hour baby booties - Pink on: February 28, 2009 03:41:04 PM
I made these booties as part of a set.  They were almost too cute to give away.

It's hard to tell with the blurriness of the photos but the buttons are little white roses.

Here they are again with the crocheted "Sweet Pea Bonnet"

4  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Elephant - Warmest Heart on: February 28, 2009 03:32:55 PM
This was a Christmas gift to my sister-in-law Anna who is an elephant fiend.  I did a little modification on the trunk.  She named him warmest heart.

This the gay pride scarf I knitted for my niece Angela(she's more like my little sister).  She happily shares it with her girlfriend Sarah.  I love and adore them both.

7  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Christmas stocking anyone? on: October 30, 2007 08:33:39 AM
I'd like to start a stocking knit-along, I haven't decided on a pattern yet but I rather like this one:

8  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Angela's Monkey Purse on: June 30, 2007 07:36:33 AM
I made this little purse for my niece Angela who is both monkey and punk obsessed.  I got the little bag at Joann's for $2.99 I think.

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Interesting idea. Shawl/Baby blanket. on: June 30, 2007 06:39:41 AM
There's a really sweet sentimental baby shower gift. It's a hankie turned into a baby bonnet for the baby to wear home from the hospital and then to use as "something old" for her or for him to give to his bride when said baby is grown and getting married.

I was thinking of making something similar for a bridal shower.  A shawl/wrap for the bride to wear on wedding day that she could later use to bring her baby home or at the christening (if they are having their baby christened).  What do you think?  I knit and chrochet, neither exceptionally well, but I muddle through.  Any pattern suggestions?  Any poem ideas?
10  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / One-Skein Spinoffs on: June 30, 2007 05:37:59 AM
I made the one-skein scarf, actually a whole bunch of them.  I loved the pattern it was so pretty and quick, it was like instant gratification (well actually more like 1 hour gratification).  I couldn't get enough, then I  thought to myself, what else can I do with this pattern?  Here's what I came up with:

For my niece's baby shower I made a crib sized blanket and matching bonnet.  The color is a little off in this first one it's supposed to be a very pale pink.

And for my daughter (who can't seem to keep her eyes open when her picture is being taken) I made a poncho by crocheting two rectangles and stitching them together then I did the shell stitch around the edges.
