1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Looking for child's vest pattern on: October 20, 2006 09:32:15 AM
Hi everyone!

I've been looking for a child's vest pattern (crocheted of course), but not a plain one.  I've seen (but can't find them anywhere now) patterns that have the front of the vest looking like animals -- someone gave us one for my son that looks like an owl.

Anyhow, any help that anyone can give me for this woudl be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gayle

I would go to your local quilting store (if you have one) and ask for referrals for someone who quilts professionally.  I can't be sure of prices for you, but around here (eastern Utah), I'd be able to get a quilt done for between $40 & $100 depending on the quilting pattern used & the size!
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Let's see your sewing machine!! on: April 08, 2006 09:51:10 AM
I learned how to sew on my Mom's 1940's Pfaff, but my own personal first sewing machine was a Singer purchased at Walmart -- it's full of problems; so then my husband bought me a Bernette 65 -- this one I love & have used nearly every day since I got it 1-1/2 years ago.  You can follow this link to see the model:  http://www.berninausa.com/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441868329&FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302025051&ASSORTMENT<>ast_id=1408474395181831&bmUID=1097460476734

I also have a Janome MyLock 644D Serger -- it looks like this: http://www.janome.com/product_show.php

I can only tell you about the Serger I have... it's a Janome & we paid a bit more for it than perhaps necessary but it has 2 needles with 4 cones of thread -- plus it has tons of functions.  I got it because it does everything I could ever need a serger to do, plus some things I never thought I'd be able to do with a serger.  We bought mine on sale and it included some of the optional feet (beading foot, cording foot, gathering foot, etc.).  You can view the model here:  http://www.janome.com/product_show.php

I would suggest that whichever serger you do choose, I'd recommend 2 needles as well as a cutter!   Good Luck!!  Smiley

I don't know much about the newer Kenmore Sewing machine models; my mom has an older one from the 80's.

I have a Singer purchased from Walmart nearly 6 years ago, and also a Bernette 65 -- you can see it here: http://www.berninausa.com/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441868329&FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302025051&ASSORTMENT<>ast_id=1408474395181831&bmUID=1097460476734

I also have a Janome 644D Serger that I love!!

Good luck with your decision.  The green one IS cute though!
8  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Simple Quilts? on: December 10, 2005 05:43:57 PM
I'm uncertain as to which "stripes" quilting pattern you are referring to.  If I were you, I would just "wing it" and go as best as possible against your memory of the quilt.  Besides quilting isn't an exact science... often it's something that many people jsut make up as they go along -- I have several quilt projects like that!

Whatever you decide to do, GOOD LUCK!!  Smiley

I'd also check on Google for your discontinued fabric.

I've bought fabric recently at www.joann.com for Joann's.  I've also seen some interesting contrasting fabrics at Walmart.  Also, do you have any fabric stores in your town or nearby that you can go to & explain your problem?
