33  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: spinning in the grease on: August 05, 2008 07:44:22 AM
I've tried to spin in the grease I frankly I don't like it at all. I think its one of those "to each his own" situations. Be careful with your wheel and make sure you clean all the grease out cause the grease attracts dust and bits and clogs your wheel and bearings.
34  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Acid Dyes in a Crock Pot? on: August 04, 2008 08:50:14 AM
This article from knitty should help. You can use acid dyes like food dyes. Many people will use their cooking utensils to dye with kool-aid (it is a foodstuff and therefor not as dangerous) but if you are using acid dyes the tools for cooking and the tools for dying should be kept separate. Once your crock has been used to dying don't cook in it to eat from.

I have one yarn to offer up this week. Its was originally 4oz corriedale Spunky Club Roving in Rosebud but I thought it needed some oomph. I ran the roving through the carder with white/gold angelina and came up with these batts

Then using a long draw I spun a lose woolen single that was about dk weight and andean plied it to create a bulky 2 ply yarn.

I'm using it to knit the trim/edges on the one skien sweater from the One Skein Wonders book.

I thought since the baby who the sweater is for is called Veronica Rose that the Rosebud roving should be made into something for her.

38  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: "Office Space"/"The Office"/etc. Desk/Cubicle Swap? on: July 21, 2008 01:09:10 PM
This sounds great. My office just moved and my old cube was nice and warm and bright. My new cube is sterile and cold and (best of all) the closest window looks out over the hole where the World Trade Center used to be so I could really use some cheering up!

what a fun idea ^_^ unfortunately the link is blocked by my work's firewall... no parade pics for me Sad
your top came out wonderfully! I've been meaning to try this for a couple of years now (doing the bra conversion) but i get a little panicky when i think about sewing Wink I have however been hoarding embellishments for whenever i get up the nerve to try! if you 've made other costumes, i'd love to see.

If you can get on flickr just type "mermaid parade 2008" as a tag and tons of pics should pop up.
For a bra conversion I love this flickr set and found it very helpful
