21  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Pricing question on: September 12, 2008 12:31:56 PM
True, I think I should ask for more details before I set a price quote. Thanks for the input ladies, and if anyone else has anything to add please pipe up. I know money and wages are a taboo subject but if more people were open to discussing what's fair and what's honest then I think fiber artists would be better off.

But what would be a reasonable amount, I know how I price my individual skeins but this is a large order with no overhead. Would say 50 bucks a pound be way off?

Ohh I should clarify. I will not be purchasing the fiber, it will be sent to me, I will spin it and send it back. I'm essentially only putting in labor/time as my resources. I will be spending no cash for this endeavor.
24  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Pricing question on: September 12, 2008 09:08:28 AM
Hello there everyone, long time no post. Sorry about that been a busy gal.

Anywho I have a question that maybe you all could help me with. A contact has asked me to spin some yarn for a yarn shop that she is working with and she wants to know how much I charge per pound of fiber. What would you think is reasonable, this would be a wholesale order and I don't want to overcharge a friend but I also don't want to undercharge and not get a fair price. The fiber is a quality fiber with cashmere (which I would totally spin on my own) and I'm lost with regards to what to do.

Thanks for your help  Grin

A second the meade idea. Its super easy to make and its a wonderful sweet wine that would go well around christmas time. If you add some vanilla beans its yummy.

I want to be involved either way in this wonderful swap, but I feel like I would rather have a more "shallow" sign up period...like maybe end of September-ish, just a week ahead of time, and a longer craft period...especially for a topic of this nature where I may be sewing things...That first week is pretty vital to get to know your partner, pick out projects to create, and to then purchase materials. Then that would only leave 3 weeks...or less...till the send-out date. Starting a sewing project, or a painting, or a doll etc. seems pretty intimidating to me in such a short amount of time, so I might have to make something smaller or send a few days late....and I REALLY don't want to have to do that. I like to be on-time.  Grin I like to make decent sized objects and things with considerable detail.  School just started, and that's also a time-balance concern for me. Just being honest...don't want to ruffle feathers. Lips sealed

I see your point but the purpose of extending the swap is to include a swap newbie who needs feedback before she can join in. Mieljolie can you please let me know via PM if you will sign up for the swap if I hold it open for you? I would hate to keep the swap open and not have you sign up.

I'm thinking I can extend sign ups to october 1 and then have send outs near the end of the month.

Ah man, all these great swap ideas!  I'm still tied up in my first swap til Sept 27th.  Sad

Anyone interested in a personal swap.  I make "beer-bellydancing" belts and accessories.  Smiley  (mieljolie.blogspot.com/2008/06/beer-belly-dancing-belts.html)  I make chain/coin belts, too.  I will try to post some pics on my blog.

If no one else minds I can extend the sign up dates until your other swap ends so you can join in the fun.

I'm interested too, but this'd be my first swap. Would that be ok?

Also, if there's the possibility of making costume pieces for people, shouldn't the questionaire have something about what sizes  participants wear (or would that come later?)

You are more then welcome to join.

As for sized I will leave that to the partners to discuss with eachother once everyone is paired up. Some people are not okay with sharing their clothing size or measurements and I didn't want to impose on other people's feelings.
