11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Tree Swap Round 3 (Signups CLOSED; Mail by 6/16/11) on: June 09, 2011 05:50:18 PM
I brought some trees home, and while I like them, I don't want them to be the swap package.  Hoping for good results from the kiln.  If I'm not so lucky, then I have some non-ceramic ideas, as well.  I can't believe the send date is coming so soon!

I was in the pottery studio this afternoon, and I had much better luck.  Two pieces made it safely out of the kiln and looked good.  I'll have a package to send on time!  Woo hoo!
I finished the form of another piece (a third try on the items that broke).  Optimistic or unrealistic?  I guess I'll find out soon enough.  It's smaller this time, so maybe it will be sturdier.  Fingers crossed!

Whoa.  Really bad luck at the pottery studio this weekend. Piece A warped in the high fire kiln, and glaze fused it to the kiln shelf.  Piece B had pieces that broke off, either during or after bisque firing.  Piece C broke while being put into the kiln.  I have never had such bad luck with my pieces!

Fortunately, Piece D came out just fine, and I was able to fix up Piece E (which had a part break after bisque firing) and apply finishes.  I hope that one makes it safely through high firing.  Crossing my fingers!

Wow, this is great.  There's something a little creepy about it--in a really good way.  I could imagine being surprised by it at the bottom of a bowl of soup, or something like that.  Smiley

Excellent work.  I'm curious about your tree stump.  I am working on a couple similar-ish concepts right now.  Did you build that from a slab, or is it coil-built?  Is the texture pressed/rolled into the clay, or did you carve it?  I love how it turned out.

Wow, those are some great packages!  I really love the button tree.

Glaze applied to two items - now waiting for them to return from the kiln and hoping they turn out

Three more raw clay items waiting to be returned from bisque firing - hoping they all make it through without breaking (maybe I should rethink all this fragile work I've done lately!), then to apply glazes and send for firing again

Thinking about plans B, C, and D in case the ceramics don't make it...

Heading back to the pottery studio in about an hour... getting nervous about the deadline already... it's hard to put work into others' hands!  (I am not in charge of putting my own pieces into the kiln--that's someone else's job--and every piece goes in twice.)

Love that four seasons quilt!

WHAAAA?
My computer got a virus, I was offline while clearing it up and resecuring the computer, and people already sent in the meantime?

This is crazy!

I'm working, but I'll definitely send near the deadline.  I'm doing clay work in a shared pottery studio, and I'm not in control when pieces go into the kiln and get taken out again.  It's a lot of work, but also a lot of waiting.  It was all just in time for my last swap, and I hope my luck is even better this time.
