Iv wanted a simple black and white striped edie-esque dress for a while and now college is over i finally have the time to make clothes for myself! YAY! So i bought some black and white striped jersey from the one and only Ebay at only £1.50 per meter! (BARGIN!!) and desided to make one!
It came today and i really wanted to get on with it but realised i had no paper to draft the pattern on! so i speant the whole day thinking of what i could use when i found two rolls of old xmas wrapping paper!

So with the help of good old winefred Auldrich(pattern cutting book) this is what i made...

The fabric was quite thin so i had to face the whole garment but least it makes neck and arm holes nice and neat around the edges with no stitching showing.

Has to be the easiest dress ive ever made!
Ive done my best to create a tutorial to make the pattern, i think its important with a dress like this to get the right shape so its perfect fit!
If youve never drafted a pattern like this before and are a bit confused just ask me for more directions and ill be glad to help!
Here is the image of the block that you are going to create, you will need to keep refering to this picture as you go through the instructions. To start you need to mark on point naught. The instructions below will tell you step by step how to create the next line from point to point.

ok so here are the measurements you will need to draft it. these are for about a size ten if you want it bigger or smaller just add on or take of a few cm.
bust 88cm
neck size 37cm
nape to waist 41cm
armscye depth 21cm
back width 34.4cm
you need to refer to these measurements where it states in the instructions.
ok so draw a straight line down from point 0.
0-1 to get the measurments from 0 to 1 go to the chart take the nape to waist and and 1cm. mark this 1. square across (Draw a lie straight across make sure its a a 90degree angle)
0-2 Your desired finished lenght, square across.
0-3 armscye depth minus 3cm, square across.
0-4 half of the measurement 0-3, square across.
0-5 one eight the measurment 0-4, square across.
0-6 one sixth of the neck size, square up.
6-7 1.3, draw in neck curve.
3-8 half back width minus 2.5cm. square up to 9 and 10.
10-11 1cm, join 7-11
3-12 quarter the bust minus 3cm square down to 13 on the waistline, 14 on the hemline.
draw in armskye curve from 11 through 9 to 12.
13-15 3cm, draw in side seam 12, 15, 14.
0-16 one sixth neck size minus 1cm, draw in the front neck curve.
please note, front and back are the same except for the front neck curve!
i hope that makes sence to you. once youve drafted this pattern its a great basic block to use as a starting point to create patterns for other style dresses! please ask any qestions! iv never made a tute on here before so it may seam ok to me because i know how to do it.
